FRANCE COLLECTION
Peach Pink Solar Carnation
The Solar carnation that is peach pink and has been the France Collection's most layered decision.
Description
French country decor includes the carnation — the flower that appears in old botanical illustrations and in the cut flower traditions of the south of France, which has been growing carnations for export and for markets for several centuries. The Peach Pink Solar Carnation is a handmade ceramic wall flower from the France Collection, kiln-fired in Toronto in a peach pink glaze, shaped in the Solar cultivar — a carnation form with the ruffled, layered petals that give the Solar its particular textural character.
The ruffled warmth of a collection that appeared in French Vogue
Chive interprets the French Vogue feature as an endorsement. The Solar carnation is the France Collection piece with the most surface texture — the ruffled petals create significant visual complexity that reads differently at close range than from across the room, and the peach pink glaze distributes across the ruffled surface in ways that create variation between the petal peaks and the recesses. The carnation has been grown in the south of France for centuries, particularly in the region around Nice, which produces more carnations than almost any other area of Europe. The peach pink Solar carnation is the France Collection's acknowledgement of this. French Vogue ran it. The Nevada Museum of Art carries it.
The Nevada Museum of Art carries the France Collection. The Utah Museum of Fine Arts stocks it. The San Diego Museum of Art carries it. The RHS Chelsea Flower Show awarded Chive the 5-star booth award — the highest rating given — for 13 consecutive years. Western US art museums have independently decided this collection belongs in their gift shops. Chive has been designing and making ceramic flowers in Toronto since 1999.

How to Hang Ceramic Flowers?
One discovers these flowers, each bearing a secret: a tiny keyhole nestled in the back, waiting for its destiny. The ritual feels almost predetermined - reaching into that dusty jar of orphaned screws, the ones squirreled away over countless home projects. Those odd bits of metal, collected like precious coins, finally finding their purpose. A quick twist of the drill, and there hangs beauty, supported by hardware whose previous life remains a mystery.
