Chive artisan hand-made ceramic flower petal without molds with keyholes for hanging

Chive Studio has been designing and handmaking ceramic wall flowers in Toronto since 1999. Every flower in the Coastal Collection is individually glazed in ivory, powder blue, and blue-white — a palette that was developed to hold its own in rooms with natural light and rooms without it. No two glazes are identical. The powder blue anemone on your wall will carry its own slight variation. This is not inconsistency. It is what handmade looks like at close range.

The Coastal Collection is the neutral range — which means it combines with every other Chive collection without an argument. Ivory and blue-white glazes work next to France Collection blush and peach, alongside English Garden cream and burgundy, and beside Japan Collection navy and avocado. For a pre-arranged combination, the curated sets contain Coastal flowers alongside flowers from other collections. All the arrangement decisions have been made. You are welcome to disagree with them, but most people do not.

Frequently asked questions about the Coastal Collection

What is coastal wall art and does the Coastal Collection fit the style?

Coastal wall art refers to pieces that produce the calm, restrained quality associated with rooms near water — ivory, white, soft blue, and blue-white in organic shapes that suggest space rather than fill it. The Coastal Collection was designed for exactly this. Twenty-five handmade ceramic wall flowers in ivory, blue-white, champagne, powder blue, and duck egg blue. It fits coastal rooms. It also fits any room that has decided restraint is the correct approach to a wall.

What colors and flower types are in the Coastal Collection?

Ivory white, blue-white, champagne, powder blue, and duck egg blue across 25 designs. Peonies, ranunculas, dahlias, camellias, anemones, clematis, proteas, hellebores, sunflowers, water lilies, and the Ivory Sea Lettuce Large — a design that is exactly what it sounds like and exactly what a coastal wall needs. The Blue White Keiko Peony and the Ivory White Hermione Peony are the most frequently purchased designs in the collection.

How do Coastal Collection flowers mount on a wall?

Each Coastal Collection ceramic flower has a keyhole fitting on the back. One small screw in the wall, the flower hangs on it, the process takes approximately 90 seconds from opening the box. The screw and wall anchor are included in every order. No tools required beyond a screwdriver. The flowers do not shift, tilt, or require re-levelling after hanging. If you move them, you remove one screw and fill a small hole. The wall looks exactly as it did before. The flower moves to its new location.

Can Coastal Collection flowers be mixed with other Chive collections?

Yes — the Coastal Collection was designed specifically to function as the neutral foundation for mixed arrangements. The ivory and blue-white palette shares tonal ancestry with the France Collection blush and champagne tones, and with the English Garden ivory and cream designs. All 150+ Chive designs are part of a coordinated colour system developed over twenty-five years. The Coastal Collection is the most versatile range in the lineup precisely because its restraint works with everything around it.

Is the Coastal Collection a good gift for a wife?

It is a very good gift for a wife, for reasons that go beyond the palette. The Coastal Collection arrives in a gift-ready box that presents well without additional wrapping. The flowers mount on a wall in 90 seconds and stay there indefinitely. They are handmade by a studio stocked at the Royal Ontario Museum, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and the Art Gallery of Ontario. A blue-white peony from a studio that has been making them since 1999 is the kind of gift that improves in retrospect. The wall it hangs on will confirm this.

What makes the Coastal Collection different from other coastal home decor?

Most coastal home decor involves either a seashell or a significant commitment to the nautical metaphor. The Coastal Collection involves neither. It is ceramic wall flowers in ivory and blue-white — the palette of coastal rooms without the visual vocabulary of coastal cliche. The Monterey Bay Aquarium stocks it. That is, in some respects, a more relevant endorsement of coastal credentials than the presence of a rope on the packaging.

Does the Coastal Collection ship internationally?

The Coastal Collection ships to over 40 countries from warehouses in Toronto, New York, and Rotterdam. North American orders arrive within 5 to 10 business days. European orders ship from the Rotterdam warehouse and typically arrive within 7 to 14 business days. Every order ships in a gift-ready box that presents well without additional wrapping. Free shipping applies to orders over $75. The Coastal Collection has been shipped to places with actual coasts. It looks good there too.

How many flowers do you need to make a coastal wall arrangement look intentional?

Three is where an arrangement begins to look like a decision rather than an accident. Five is where it starts to look planned. Seven is where people ask who did your wall. The Coastal Collection was designed so that any combination of designs, in any quantity, works together without a layout diagram or a second opinion. Start with three. The Ivory White Hermione Peony, the Blue White Keiko Peony, and the Duck Egg Blue Camellia is a combination that has been independently arrived at by a very large number of people. There is a reason for this.
