There's No Such Thing as Just One Ornament

Pick a favorite. Then accept that "just one" was never really an option.

A beer ornament announces the household faster than the household can. This one is a full six pack in hand-blown glass — six amber bottles, painted labels, a carrier rendered in kraft brown — hanging from a solid cap and loop with no apology and no craft-brewing backstory required. The carrier and its six bottles come off the blowpipe as a single piece of glass; the painting happens afterward, bottle by bottle, so no two labels sit at quite the same angle. Gordon hangs his six pack on the branch that faces the front door, between the candy cane and whatever the kids made at school that season that must be displayed or feelings will be hurt. You know whose tree it is before anyone says hello. That is what decorating is for. Just a hook, a branch, and self-knowledge. If the Royal Ontario Museum curated domestic honesty, this would be the first acquisition, and Gordon would loan it proudly.

The Story Behind This Ornament

Gordon's tree is a census, and he conducts it honestly. The fishing lure is there because of the boat. The tiny football is there because of the Sundays. The construction-paper reindeer with one antler is there because his daughter made it in second grade and its removal is not on any table, in any negotiation, ever. And the six pack hangs on the door-facing side, at handshake height, because Gordon believes a tree should answer the question who lives here before anyone has taken off their coat. He does not explain it. He has no anecdote about a brewery tour, no position on hops. He likes beer, it is his tree, and the math ends there — a completeness of reasoning I have come to envy in a world of people justifying their own ornaments. When we blew this six pack we made the carrier and bottles as a single piece, then painted each label separately, letting every bottle lean at its own small angle, because six identical bottles is a diagram and six leaning ones is a fridge. The kraft-brown carrier took three tries to get dull enough. Cardboard is a surprisingly hard color. Hang it where Gordon would: the branch the front door sees first. Done.

Care Tips

Storage Do’s and Don’ts:

(Because Yes, They’re Fragile)

  • Do wrap each ornament individually in soft tissue paper, bubble wrap, or a gentle cloth. (No, shoving them in a shoebox with tinsel does not count.)
  • Don’t let them clink around in a box together. That’s a recipe for heartbreak and glittery shards.
  • Do store them in a sturdy container (plastic bins with dividers = chef’s kiss) and keep it in a cool, dry place — no attics or sketchy basements, please.

Pro Tip: Label the box like your life depends on it.

Write it on every side, not just the top, since nobody unloading a truck reads the top first. If you're storing these for next year, do future you a favor and note what's inside beyond just "ornaments." A little specificity now saves a lot of bubble wrap archaeology in eleven months.

More Food & Drink Christmas Ornaments

Our Food & Drink collection is a menu of the things people love without apology, rendered in hand-painted glass. Something for after the bottles: the Banana ornament hangs nearby, allegedly for balance.

Hand-Blown Glass Christmas Ornaments

Hand-painted glass rewards the close look, and every Chive ornament is made to be inspected at arm's length — the distance where trees are actually enjoyed. Held close, six painted labels each lean at a slightly different angle, exactly like a real fridge shelf. Stock the tree further from the food and drink ornament shelf.

Ceramic Flowers That Never Wilt

If the tree is a census, the shelf deserves one too. Chive's ceramic flowers are hand-built stems that state their business all year — color that stays, petals that hold, zero maintenance and zero pretense. Gordon's rule applies: nobody should have to justify what they love, and nobody has to water it either. Hang the six pack in December. Stand a flower up in January. The census continues.

About Chive Studio

At Chive we hold a simple position: nobody should have to justify what they love. It has guided the studio since 2004, when we bet a company on ceramic flowers — an object precisely no one was asking for — and it guides the catalog still: pots for gardens, vases for counters, seed packets for spring, and a winter run of glass ornaments. We do not make aspirational objects. We make accurate ones: the things actually in your fridge, actually on your counter, actually beloved. If that is a six pack, we will blow it in glass and paint every label, no backstory required. Twenty-two years of accuracy and counting. Your tree, your census.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy a beer ornament online?

Right here at chive.com — the 6 pack of Beer ornament ships from our studio in glass-safe packaging, all six bottles blown as one piece and painted label by label. It is the fridge, faithfully translated to the tree. Gordon ordered his the day we listed it, with no deliberation whatsoever. He knew his tree. He always has.

Is the 6 pack of Beer ornament right for white elephant?

Every white elephant has a price cap, and the six pack lands squarely on it — a gift that fills the whole budget while looking like it cost more thought than money, which is the exchange's ideal ratio. Nobody suspects hand-blown glass at that number. Gordon brought one in under a twenty-dollar limit last year. The receipt stayed his secret. The impression did not.

Is the 6 pack of Beer ornament a good gift idea?

It is a great gift for the person whose tree tells the truth — the one with the fishing lure and the tiny football already up, who decorates by autobiography instead of theme. This slots straight into that census. Gordon received his from a brother-in-law who understood him completely. The gift was the sentence itself. No card necessary.

What is the 6 pack of Beer ornament made from?

It is hand-blown glass, the carrier and all six bottles emerging from the blowpipe together; the amber tint and every leaning label go on afterward by brush. The kraft-brown of the carrier took three attempts to get convincingly dull, because cardboard is a genuinely hard color. Gordon has held a lot of carriers in his time. He appreciates that detail most.

How big is the 6 pack of Beer ornament on the tree?

The six pack measures 2.87 inches across, 2.36 inches tall, and about 2 inches deep — compact but wide-shouldered, so give it a branch with a little lateral room. It hangs level, like a carrier being set down on a counter. Gordon gives his the branch that greets the front door first. The census starts there. He insists.

How do I safely pack away the 6 pack of Beer ornament?

Wrap the whole carrier in tissue — it packs as one piece, no bottle-by-bottle fussing — then box it in a compartment with clearance on the wide sides and store at steady room temperature. It is the easiest ornament we make to put away. Gordon has it down to eleven seconds. He timed it, because of course he did. Naturally.

What pairs well with a 6 pack of Beer ornament?

On the tree, it pairs with the rest of the honest food: the pizza slice, the pickle, the banana, the takeout box — the Food & Drink collection is a whole menu in hand-painted glass. The six pack anchors the table like it does in life. Gordon added the pizza slice within a week. He calls that branch Friday. Accurate.

Does the 6 pack of Beer ornament ship gift ready?

It ships glass-ready rather than gift-ready — the packaging is engineered to protect six painted bottles in transit, and the bow is your contribution. The boxy shape wraps faster than anything else you will buy this year. Gordon does his with a single strip of tape. Function over flourish, always. The tree agrees.

A Promise Fresh Flowers Can't Keep

Fresh flowers make a promise they cannot keep. A Chive ceramic flower skips the wilting and arrives with the kind of presence that suggests someone spent real time choosing it, whether or not that is true. No water. No sunlight. No expiration date to plan around.
