Jade Green Succulent

Specific enough to have a point of view. Neutral enough to stay.

Regular price $42.15

The jade green glaze sits in the range of the most considered greens available: specific enough to have a point of view, calm enough to work alongside most rooms without asking those rooms to do anything different to accommodate it. The Jade Green Succulent is 5 inches across, hangs on one screw, and has never once needed water. The large rosette form reads as a complete object rather than a placeholder. It does not need other objects around it to make its case, though it works well with them. It has never needed the room to be doing anything in particular and it shows.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

The jade succulent that moved to a wall and has no further requirements

The Jade Green Succulent is the largest succulent in the collection and it uses this scale correctly. It does not fill a wall — it claims a position on a wall, which is a different thing. The jade green glaze is specific enough to have a point of view and neutral enough that the point of view is compatible with most rooms.

This is the thing about a large jade green succulent on a wall: the size makes the decision for the room. You do not need to supplement it with other objects. You do not need to arrange it. You put it on the wall and the wall adjusts. We made it ceramic. The adjustment is permanent.

Minimalist wall art that earns its place through form alone

Minimalist wall art works when the object is correct rather than decorative — a single form with a clear silhouette and a surface that responds to light. The Jade Green Succulent is that object. The large rosette form has a botanical specificity that reads as designed rather than merely placed, and jade green is specific enough to be a choice and restrained enough to work within a minimalist vocabulary.

It works with white walls, natural wood, linen, and the other carefully edited objects of a minimalist interior. It does not need supplementing. It does not need arranging around. It is one object in jade green that has made its case completely. We made it ceramic. The case is permanent.

Frequently asked questions

What are good bedroom wall decor ideas that are not prints?

Bedroom wall decor that is not a print tends toward objects with dimension — ceramics, woven pieces, three-dimensional objects that respond to light differently than a flat surface. The Jade Green Succulent is ceramic ceramic in a jade green glaze, with the architectural rosette form of a large succulent. It reads differently at different times of day. On a white wall in a bedroom it is the object that makes the wall look chosen. The Monterey Bay Aquarium carries the collection it comes from, which is an institutional endorsement from people who care about the natural world.

Does minimalist wall art need to be expensive?

Minimalist wall art needs to be correct rather than expensive — a single object with a clear form, a surface that holds attention, and a color that earns its place on the wall. The Jade Green Succulent is made by Chive Studio, in a jade green glaze, in a rosette form that reads immediately as architectural. It ships in a Chive gift box. The minimalist wall is made by choosing well, not by spending more. Chive has been making the case for this since 1999 and the Monterey Bay Aquarium has been agreeing with it for several years.

Is a ceramic wall flower a good going away gift?

The Jade Green Succulent is a specific going away gift because it solves the problem of the new place that does not feel like home yet. It ships directly to the destination address. It hangs in 90 seconds. The jade green rosette on the wall of a new apartment makes the wall look like it was considered rather than temporary. The Monterey Bay Aquarium carries this collection. The person moving away gets wall art with a specific origin — a Toronto studio that has been making ceramic flowers since 1999 — on their wall in a place they are just beginning to know.

What is jade green and how does it look in a room?

Jade green is a cool, deep green with blue undertones — it is the green of jade stone, which has been used in objects designed to last for thousands of years because the color reads as permanent rather than fashionable. In a room it anchors rather than advances. On a white wall it reads as the considered botanical element that makes the room feel finished. The jade glaze on this succulent has depth — it is not flat — which means it responds to the light in the room and looks slightly different at different times of day. Chive developed this glaze. It is not a mass-produced color.

What is a client gift that is not a generic corporate gift?

The Jade Green Succulent is a client gift for clients who have offices or homes with walls in them, which covers most clients. It arrives in a Chive gift box, ready to give. It hangs with one screw and does not require assembly, explanation, or follow-up. It is made by Chive Studio, stocked in the Monterey Bay Aquarium gift shop, and specific enough to have been chosen rather than ordered in bulk. Corporate gifts that are not generic tend to be the ones that are individually crafted rather than manufactured, and the ones that go on a wall rather than a shelf.

How do you use ceramic succulents in a bathroom?

Ceramic succulents from Chive work in bathrooms because ceramic ceramic is completely unaffected by humidity. The jade green rosette on a bathroom wall reads as a botanical element that survives the conditions that real succulents would find challenging. Most bathrooms have insufficient light for succulents — the ceramic version has no opinion about this. The jade green glaze responds to the particular light conditions of a bathroom, both the warm overhead kind and the reflected light near a mirror. It will look exactly the same in twenty years as it does today.

Is a jade succulent from Chive a good Yankee swap gift?

The Jade Green Succulent is a reliable Yankee swap gift because it is unusual enough to be wanted by most people in the exchange, specific enough to have clearly been chosen, and delivered in a Chive gift box that reads as deliberate rather than grabbed from a shelf. It will be stolen. This is the standard by which Yankee swap gifts are evaluated and the Jade Green Succulent consistently meets it. The Monterey Bay Aquarium stocks the collection it comes from. That information can be mentioned or withheld depending on the competitive dynamics of the specific exchange.

Does the jade succulent have a preference for which wall it lives on?

The Jade Green Succulent has been placed on north-facing walls, south-facing walls, bathroom walls, bedroom walls, and the walls of the Monterey Bay Aquarium gift shop display, and has not expressed a preference among them. It performs consistently across lighting conditions because the jade green glaze was designed to do exactly that — respond to whatever light is available rather than requiring specific conditions. Its only requirement is a wall that can accept a standard screw. Most walls qualify.
