Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

Beach wall decor works best when a piece commits fully to its shape, and Ivory Empire Cabbage Flower does exactly that, carrying one of the most specifically botanical names in the whole Coastal collection without a trace of self-consciousness about any of it. The cabbage flower silhouette is unmistakable even in a soft ivory glaze, giving the piece real character while still keeping the calm, coastal tone fully intact throughout. It suits a housewarming gift for a couple settling into a new place together, and pairs well with scandinavian wall art in a lighter room. Every ridge and fold is built by hand at Chive ceramics studio, and no two cabbage flowers fold in quite the same pattern. It asks for a single hook and nothing further, ever again, for as long as it hangs. Sold at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show — Chive has exhibited for 14 consecutive years, winning the 5-star booth award twice.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

Ivory Chrysanthemum ceramic wall flower styled on wall — Coastal Collection — Chive Studio Toronto

Unique coastal decor, original flower designs in 200+ art galleries and institutions worldwide

The most specifically, defiantly botanical name in this entire section of the collection — an actual, named cabbage flower, in ivory, with absolutely no shame about any of it. I love this piece specifically because it refuses to pretend to be a rose or a peony or anything more conventionally flower-shaped. It's a cabbage flower. It knows exactly what it is.

And yet, despite that specificity, it will still end up described to us by its eventual owner as "going on the wall by the stairs, which is kind of a warm white." We didn't ask. We never ask — there's genuinely no field on the order form for wall color, I've checked. They tell us anyway, every time, as though the cabbage flower's very particular identity somehow demands an equally particular home.

I've started to think the specificity of the flower's name and the specificity of the wall description are related, somehow, though I can't prove it. Maybe a piece this committed to its own strange botanical truth just attracts customers who feel moved to be equally committed to describing their own walls. Either way, I read every message that comes in, and I still don't have anywhere useful to put the information. That hasn't stopped me yet.

Designed to Share the Same Room

Part of the Coastal Collection

The easiest rooms borrow from places that never tried too hard — weathered wood, a bloom left out until the color settled into something quieter. That's the Coastal premise. At 6.5 inches across, this is the largest single piece in the entire Coastal collection, committing fully to an unmistakable botanical silhouette rather than softening it — a choice the paler, quieter White Snowdrop doesn't have to make at all.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as a growing gallery wall, or laid flat as a no-water tablescape. Ivory Empire Cabbage Flower brings genuine texture whether it's mounted entirely by itself, or grouped together with smoother ivory shapes for contrast in a larger arrangement. Laid flat, its deep botanical ridges add real depth to any no-water tablescape, and the whole display holds its shape without any rearranging needed at all. Shop the full Coastal Collection.

Complete the Look

Ivory Empire Cabbage Flower pairs naturally with a hanging plant nearby, since both pieces bring real texture without relying on bold color to do it. The Bobbin Hanging Pot holds a trailing plant at a height that echoes the cabbage flower's own dimension on the wall. Hang them together near a window for good light and a layered, textural look. The two pieces read as though they were always meant to share that wall.

The Safe Color Was Never Safe. — Coastal Collection.

Nobody at Chive expected "cabbage flower" to become an actual product name we'd say out loud in meetings, and yet here we are, two decades into this studio, still fully committed to it. The shape came from wanting something with real texture in the ivory line — deep ridges, real folds, nothing smooth or safe about it — and every ridge is still pressed by hand before the piece is ever fired. It's not a subtle flower by ceramic standards. But mounted in ivory, on a wall, it settles into the same quiet register as everything else we make, proof that even our strangest shapes eventually learn the studio's manners.

Frequently asked questions

How does a Ivory Empire Cabbage Flower hang on the wall?

A Ivory Empire Cabbage Flower hangs from a single hook using the keyhole cutout on the back of the piece. Its deep ridges add a bit of extra weight, so we recommend a wall anchor for the sturdiest hold. Most standard hooks handle it fine, though, based on what customers report.

What makes a good beach house wall decor piece?

A good beach house wall decor piece should feel relaxed without looking generic or overly coastal in an obvious way. Ivory Empire Cabbage Flower brings genuine texture and character while staying within a soft, sun-faded palette. Its unusual shape gives a room something to actually look at. That's harder to find than it sounds.

Is a ceramic cabbage flower a good housewarming gift?

A ceramic cabbage flower makes a genuinely good housewarming gift, mostly because it adds real character to a new space without requiring any commitment to care for it. Ivory Empire Cabbage Flower goes straight on a wall and stays there, permanently finished, with no upkeep at all. New homeowners rarely mind one less task.

Does an ivory ceramic cabbage flower work as scandinavian decor?

An ivory ceramic cabbage flower works well as scandinavian decor, since the style depends on texture and restraint working together rather than bold color choices. Ivory Empire Cabbage Flower brings real dimension through its ridges alone, no additional color needed. It fits that quieter design language without ever feeling out of place.

What ships inside the box with a Ivory Empire Cabbage order?

Every Ivory Empire Cabbage order ships in a branded Chive gift box, ready to present without any extra wrapping required on your end at all. A printed card explains the hanging hardware, which comes already built into the back of the piece itself. Nothing needs assembly beyond locating the right hook. It arrives ready to hang.

What is a good housewarming gift for a couple?

A good housewarming gift for a couple should feel useful without being purely practical or forgettable a month later. Ivory Empire Cabbage Flower brings genuine visual interest to a shared new space immediately. It requires zero maintenance during an already busy moving process. Most couples hang it within the first week.

How long does a ceramic cabbage flower last versus a fresh one?

A ceramic cabbage flower lasts indefinitely versus a fresh one, which would wilt and lose its structure within days at most. Ivory Empire Cabbage Flower holds its exact ridges and shape for years without any visible change. There's no vase, no water, no eventual disposal to plan for. It simply remains as detailed as the day it arrived.

Is a ceramic cabbage flower a good new home gift?

A ceramic cabbage flower makes a strong new home gift, mostly because it gives a blank wall real personality without demanding any upkeep from the new owner at all. Ivory Empire Cabbage Flower stays exactly as textured and finished for years afterward. It requires no watering schedule of any kind. That matters most early on.
