Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

Lily meaning, across almost every tradition that has arrived at one, converges on the same qualities: purity, stillness, and a fundamental indifference to whether you find them convenient. This version mounts flat on a wall and holds its ivory bloom year-round, which is the closest the European water lily has ever come to meeting anyone halfway. Each piece is built from the center outward at Chive Ceramics Studio — petals set individually so the depth reads as growth rather than manufacture. Ivory gives it a second register: not white, which would be declaration, but the color of a pond surface in overcast light when the lily has been there long enough to stop noticing the season, or caring about it. Artisans shape these pieces by hand, and the ivory glaze deepens at the center where the petals converge most tightly. Newfields in Indianapolis carries Chive ceramic wall art in its museum shop.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

A Surface That Never Gets Wet

The water lily does not come to you. This is the first thing you need to understand about it and also the central organizing principle of its entire personality. It sits in the middle of something cold and still and largely inconvenient to reach and it blooms there, ivory and unbothered, and if you want to see it properly you are expected to make appropriate arrangements.

The specific lily in question is the European variety, which chose cold ponds specifically — not decorative garden ponds, not the kind of feature you describe on a real estate listing, but actual cold ponds that require some commitment to get near. Ivory is not a declaration — it's what white becomes when it has stopped explaining itself. The color is what a pond surface holds in overcast light when the lily has simply been there long enough.

The ceramic wall mount is the closest this particular flower has ever come to meeting anyone halfway. The water lily agreed to it only because a wall is considerably more convenient than the middle of a cold pond. We are taking this as a win and not asking further questions. The water lily would not answer them anyway.

English Garden Curated Collection - Wimbledon - Chive Ceramics Studio - Chive Ceramics Studio

Part of the English Garden Collection

The English Garden collection borrows its chaos from cottage beds never pruned into submission — rambling roses, over-full peonies, zinnias that stayed uninvited. Every piece trades one fussy bloom for an overgrown afternoon. The Ivory European Water Lily floats its petals flat and wide, built for a surface that never actually gets wet.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as part of a gallery wall that grows one piece at a time, or laid flat across an entryway console or shelf as a tablescape that never needs the water changed. The keyhole on the back handles the wall version; the base handles the surface version. Most people start with one flower and end up needing both configurations before they admit it.

Complete the Look

The Tika pot in orange is the specific complement to this lily's ivory in the way that a warm accent makes a cool neutral stop looking like it's trying to disappear. The Tika is sized for a generous root system, comes with a saucer, and the orange glaze is the kind of committed color decision that improves everything around it rather than competing with it. The lily on the wall, the Tika on the shelf beneath it — both doing something the other cannot.

Floating, Permanently

The water lily form is built from the center outward at Chive Ceramics Studio, which sounds obvious until you try to do it and discover that the center is the structural problem — the petals that radiate from it need enough depth to read as grown from a root rather than arranged around a point, and getting that distinction right in ceramic takes a level of petal-by-petal sequencing that cannot be rushed.

The studio has been developing this form since 2004. The European water lily in particular presented a specific scale problem: the bloom is large relative to most flowers in this catalog, which means the center must be built with more compression layers than a smaller bloom, or the depth collapses when the form dries. The studio hand-forms each piece individually. The ivory glaze pools at the center in a way that reinforces the compression rather than obscuring it.

Frequently asked questions

Does this Ivory European Water Lily need special hardware?

The Ivory European Water Lily hangs with a single standard screw in drywall — no special hardware, no anchors, no mounting system beyond what you already own. The keyhole slot on the back fits a standard picture-hanging screw and installation takes approximately ninety seconds once the screw is in place. Ships with a guide card.

What does a water lily mean as a thoughtful gift?

Lily meaning across most traditions converges on purity, stillness, and a fundamental indifference to whether you find them convenient — which is either deeply philosophical or very accurate about actual water lilies, depending on your mood. The European variety adds cold-pond persistence to that reading. A ceramic version holds all of it without a vase, a pond, or a five-day window. Worth more than a card.

Is an Ivory Water Lily a good farmhouse decor gift?

Farmhouse decor works best when it looks like it arrived with the house rather than from a trend cycle, and the Ivory European Water Lily is the rare piece that reads as discovered rather than chosen — the color, the form, the particular quietness of ivory at scale. Ships gift-ready. Requires nothing after delivery. The recipient gets the credit for the wall looking this considered.

Does an Ivory Water Lily work as serene farmhouse decor?

The Ivory European Water Lily works as farmhouse decor because ivory, at this scale, reads as patina rather than palette — the color of things that have been in a room long enough to belong there. It has no season, no trend attachment, and the water lily form is the one bloom that reads as organic rather than arranged regardless of what it is displayed next to. Simply stays.

Is an Ivory Water Lily a good sympathy gift for loss?

A sympathy gift for loss benefits from being something that stays rather than something that has to be maintained or eventually removed, and the Ivory European Water Lily handles both problems simultaneously — the traditional meaning of the lily in the sympathy context, in material that does not wilt on the timeline of grief. Ships gift-ready, arrives protected. Nothing required on the receiving end.

What is a lasting sympathy gift that needs no watering?

A lasting sympathy gift that needs no watering is ceramic — specifically a flower whose traditional reading already includes the sympathy context, in a material that holds indefinitely without care or removal. The Ivory European Water Lily carries the lily meaning in a form that does not require a vase, a window, or a two-week mental note. It simply stays where the recipient puts it.

How long does an Ivory European Water Lily last versus fresh?

An Ivory European Water Lily in ceramic lasts indefinitely — no pond, no vase, no dormancy. A fresh water lily, removed from its cold-pond habitat and placed in a typical home environment, is operating against its entire evolutionary logic and gives approximately three to five days before it makes that clear. The ceramic version holds the bloom without any of those negotiations. No expiration involved.

Is a ceramic water lily a good condolence gift idea?

A ceramic water lily is a condolence gift that carries both the right meaning and the right material in one object — the traditional lily reading in something that does not wilt at an inconvenient moment or become an additional task for someone with enough to manage. Ships protected. Arrives ready. Stays as long as the recipient keeps it.
