Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

A 32nd anniversary gift needs some weight to it, and the Navy Poppy carries that weight in a color no poppy has ever grown naturally. Cast in ceramic and finished in a deep, ink-dark navy, the papery poppy silhouette is preserved permanently instead of dropping its petals within a week like the real thing. As navy blue wall decor, it holds its own against bolder rooms — patterned wallpaper, brass fixtures, layered textiles — without fading into the background the way a pale print might. This is a piece built for maximalist decor, where a single quiet flower would get lost but a saturated, oversized poppy commands its section of wall. Thirty-two years is not a round number most retailers plan around, which makes a piece this specific feel considered rather than generic. McKee Botanical Garden has featured Chive's handmade botanical work in past programming, the same studio process behind every navy poppy that leaves the workshop.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

A Color That Split the Room

Poppies are, by nature, the most temporary flower we work with — a real bloom barely survives being cut, let alone shipped across a country. That impermanence is exactly what pulled us toward making one that refuses to cooperate with its own reputation for fragility. Navy came from a studio disagreement: half the team wanted true black, half wanted the poppy's natural red preserved, and navy won because it split the difference into something neither side expected to like as much as they eventually did. The papery, crepe-thin texture of a real poppy petal is one of the harder things to translate into ceramic — too thick and it reads as an entirely different flower, too thin and it won't survive the kiln at all. We spent longer on the petal thickness for this piece than almost any other in the current collection. Each one is hand-shaped, hand-finished, and fired individually, so the navy tone shifts slightly from petal to petal the way real color does in nature, just permanently instead of for a single afternoon. It hangs flat on a wall with a single screw, holding its shape and its improbable color for as long as you want it there, which is considerably longer than any actual poppy has ever managed to stay upright.

FR12 Peridot Keiko Peony - Chive Ceramics Studio - Ceramic Flowers - Chive Ceramics Studio

The France collection inherited its manners from countryside kitchens that never apologized for a chipped teacup or a crooked shutter — faded rose, sun-bleached poppy, a peony that's seen a few decades. Every piece trades polish for something already lived-in. The Navy Poppy anchors a wall with real, saturated weight that lighter blooms simply can't match. A lighter, warmer bloom keeps the corner from feeling too heavy.

Marseille - Ceramic Flower Curated Collection - Chive Ceramics Studio - Ceramic Flower Sets - Chive Ceramics Studio

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as a growing gallery wall, or laid flat as a no-water tablescape. The Navy Poppy anchors a wall arrangement with real visual weight, the kind of saturated color that smaller, paler pieces tend to orbit around rather than compete with directly. Laid flat across a console or shelf, the poppy's crepe-thin petal texture catches light differently than it does vertically, revealing detail easy to miss from across a room.

A Supporting Piece

The Navy Poppy's dark, dramatic tone pairs naturally with something equally composed nearby. The Large Dojo Porcelain Pot in Light Grey offers a neutral, sturdy counterpart for an actual plant, letting the poppy hold the drama while the pot stays quietly out of the way. Grey doesn't compete with navy. It just supports it, the way good supporting pieces are supposed to.

Weight No Lighter Bloom Can Match

Chive Ceramics Studio spends its time chasing flowers that photograph beautifully for exactly one afternoon and then die anyway, then building something that skips the dying entirely. Ceramic holds onto detail a live stem loses within hours — the specific curl of a petal edge, the slight asymmetry that makes a flower look grown rather than manufactured. The workshop has run this way since 2004, one piece at a time, without ever outsourcing the finishing step to keep up with demand, even in years when demand made a strong case for it. Every order leaves the studio finished and ready to hang, nothing further required from the person unboxing it.

Frequently asked questions

How does a Navy Poppy hang on the wall?

How does a Navy Poppy hang on the wall? One screw through the keyhole mount on the back does the entire job, no drill guide required beyond that first hole. The whole process takes about as long as reading these instructions. Real poppies, for comparison, require a vase and a level of commitment most people abandon by day three. This one just stays up.

What is a striking copper-anniversary gift for bold taste?

A striking copper-anniversary gift for bold taste should probably not be copper at all, since everyone already assumes that's the safe route. A navy poppy skips the metal entirely and goes for a color that doesn't exist in any actual poppy field. Bold taste deserves a gift that agrees with the premise. This one does.

Is a ceramic navy poppy a good 32nd anniversary gift?

A ceramic navy poppy works as a 32nd anniversary gift specifically because thirty-two is a number most retailers have never once built a display around. The color is deliberately unnatural, chosen the same way thirty-two years together is deliberately specific rather than round. It's not a milestone number. It's worth marking anyway.

What is a navy wall decor piece for any statement room?

A navy wall decor piece for a statement room needs enough presence to survive next to bold wallpaper and brass fixtures without disappearing into the background. A navy poppy, oversized and fully saturated, holds its own in exactly that kind of demanding room. It doesn't compete loudly for attention. It just quietly, permanently wins.

Does a Navy Poppy ship in a gift box for an anniversary?

A Navy Poppy ships in gift-ready packaging suitable for handing over directly at an anniversary dinner, no additional wrapping required beforehand. The box itself was designed by people who understand nobody wants to explain a shipping label at a nice restaurant table. It just looks intentional already. It genuinely is.

Does a Navy Poppy work as dark, dramatic room decor?

A Navy Poppy works as dark, dramatic room decor because it commits fully to a mood instead of hedging with a safer pastel. Most floral decor tries to lighten a room; this one is content to add weight instead. Drama, it turns out, looks good on a wall. Especially this one.

How long does a ceramic poppy last versus a fresh one?

A ceramic poppy lasts indefinitely, while a fresh poppy typically drops its petals within two or three days of being cut, sooner in a warm room. Poppies have never been known for staying power, live or dried, no matter how carefully they're handled. This one simply opted out of that entire reputation. Permanently.

Is a ceramic poppy a good housewarming gift for a bold home?

A ceramic poppy makes a strong housewarming gift for a bold home because it arrives ready to commit to a statement wall on day one, no styling required. Most housewarming gifts are safe on purpose, which is exactly the problem for a home that clearly isn't. This one matches the energy.
