Orange Fiesta Marigold

It started getting dressed and simply could not stop.

Regular price $34.65

The Fiesta Marigold has petals so densely, recklessly layered that it looks like it started getting dressed and simply could not stop, adding ruffle upon ruffle until someone presumably had to intervene. No one did, and this is the result. It is 4.5 inches across, hangs on one screw, and requires no water. It is orange in the way that things are orange when they have made a decision about being orange and will not be revisited on the matter. It is larger than you are expecting. You will rearrange whatever you had planned for that wall.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

The Decision About Orange

The Fiesta Marigold has petals so densely, recklessly layered that it looks like it started getting dressed and simply could not stop, adding ruffle upon ruffle until someone presumably had to intervene, and no one did, and this is the result. We made it orange. Not a cautious orange. The orange of something that has made a decision.

This is the thing about the Fiesta Marigold: it is larger than you are expecting. We have watched people receive it and reconsider whatever they had planned for that shelf. We made it ceramic. The ruffles are permanent. The shelf reconsideration is yours.

Maximalist home decor that required something larger than expected

Maximalist home decor needs objects that can hold their own when surrounded by pattern, color, and the accumulated decisions of a room that has committed fully to having things in it. The Orange Fiesta Marigold is larger than you are expecting. Its petals are densely, recklessly layered in the orange of something that made a decision and will not revisit it. In a maximalist room it does not disappear.

It anchors a wall. It reads from across the room. It works alongside wallpaper, gallery walls, layered textiles, and the other maximalist objects that a room of this kind requires. We have watched people receive it and rearrange whatever they had planned for that wall. The Fiesta Marigold has never been wrong about where it belongs.

Frequently asked questions

How do you hang a ceramic wall flower without damaging the wall?

The orange Fiesta Marigold hangs on a single screw. That is the complete hardware list. The keyhole on the back sits over the screw head, the flower settles level, and the whole operation takes about ninety seconds including the time spent deciding where on the wall it belongs. No drill is required for most walls. No bracket, no frame, no additional hardware. One screw. Ninety seconds. We have been doing it this way for twenty-five years and nobody has asked for a different system.

What does a marigold mean?

The marigold means warmth, creativity, and the specific optimism of a flower that blooms in the season when other flowers have finished their arguments and gone inside. It has been used in celebrations across many cultures — in Mexico for Dia de los Muertos, in South Asian garlands, in English kitchen gardens as a companion plant that protects what grows near it. The Fiesta Marigold in particular is the marigold that took all of these associations and decided to express them at full volume, in orange, in a ruffled form that does not know the meaning of enough. This is not a criticism. This is a description.

What is a good coworker going away gift?

The Orange Fiesta Marigold is a going-away gift for a coworker who is going somewhere they will have a wall. It is handmade ceramic from a studio that has been operating since 1999. It is in the collection of the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art. It ships in Chive packaging, ready to give. It does not require maintenance, watering, a new apartment with good light, or any of the other conditions most going-away gifts quietly depend on. It is also the kind of gift that looks like it was chosen by someone who was paying attention to the person receiving it, rather than purchased from a list of acceptable office gift options.

What makes a good art lover gift?

The Orange Fiesta Marigold is a correct answer to this question. It is handmade ceramic from a studio whose work hangs in the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art and more than two hundred other institutions worldwide. It is a botanical sculpture as much as it is a wall flower — the ruffled layering, the density, the form that is both recognizably marigold and considerably more resolved than any marigold that grew in a garden. An art lover will understand immediately that this was made by someone, and that the someone had a position on the subject of orange. It ships gift-ready. The position is permanent.

What wall art works in a living room?

The Orange Fiesta Marigold on a living room wall is a specific choice, and specific choices are what living rooms need. The form — dense, ruffled, sculptural — is interesting from the couch distance that defines how most people see living room art. The orange is warm in the evening light that most living rooms operate in. It hangs on one screw, positions in ninety seconds, and does not require a frame or a gallery arrangement to be complete. One flower at the right height is a finished living room wall.

What wall art suits a maximalist home?

The Orange Fiesta Marigold was built for maximalist homes. A flower that is this committed to ruffle, this specific about orange, this large on the wall — this is not a flower for rooms that are still negotiating. Maximalist interiors require objects that can hold their position when surrounded by pattern, color, and a general abundance of visual information. The Fiesta Marigold can do this because the form is so resolved and the color so decided that it reads clearly even in a full room. In a maximalist arrangement with other English Garden flowers, it is the anchor that everything else positions itself in relation to.

Can the Fiesta Marigold be sent as a last minute gift?

The Orange Fiesta Marigold ships from our warehouse in Chive packaging, ready to give. Depending on location and selected shipping, it can arrive quickly. Check current shipping estimates at checkout. The packaging will not reveal that the timeline was compressed. The flower will look the same as it would have looked if you had planned ahead, which is one of the things we appreciate about ceramic: it does not have opinions about when it was ordered.

Has any flower ever been described as larger than expected more often than the Fiesta Marigold?

We have no formal data on this. We have informal data, which is that a significant number of customers have mentioned the size in their reviews, almost always favorably, in the specific tone of someone who has been pleasantly surprised by a commitment they were not expecting. The dimensions are listed on the product page. The listing is accurate. The flower is, nonetheless, larger than people expect. We have decided this is a feature.
