Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

A coworker leaving gift has to clear a strange bar: personal enough to feel intentional, safe enough not to raise questions in the group chat, and this Orange Yellow Coreopsis clears it without much effort. The color reads as cheerful rather than sentimental, a warm yellow-orange that works equally well on a home office wall or a new desk somewhere else entirely. Each thin petal is pulled out from the center by hand at Chive Ceramics Studio, kept narrow enough that the coreopsis holds its characteristically sunburst-like shape without becoming fragile. It mounts flat to any wall in minutes, skipping the water and sunlight a cut coreopsis would need to survive past the first week. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston has built parts of its decorative arts collection around exactly this kind of hand-finished studio ceramic work. Gift cards get spent and forgotten within a month. A ceramic coreopsis stays on the wall long after the goodbye email is deleted.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

Built to Hold a Wall Alone

Coworker gifts occupy an impossible middle ground — too impersonal if you get it wrong, oddly intense if you get it too right, and I've watched enough office departures to know the group chat notices either mistake immediately. I wanted to design something that sidesteps the entire problem. Coreopsis isn't a flower most people could identify by name, which felt like an advantage here, since a gift that isn't obviously loaded with anniversary or romantic meaning reads as safer for exactly this occasion. The orange-yellow is warm without tipping into anything overly bright, closer to late-afternoon light than anything neon. I built the petals thin and pulled outward from the center, which is the coreopsis's actual growth pattern, and it took some trial and error to keep that shape from becoming fragile once fired. What I like about this piece is that it doesn't try too hard, the same way the best coworker gifts never do. A gift card gets spent within a month and forgotten by the next quarter. This one sits on a wall long after the goodbye email has been archived and everyone's moved on to the next hire. I like that it doesn't announce itself as a going-away gift either — visitors just see a cheerful flower, no story attached unless someone asks.

Designed to Share the Same Room

Part of the France Collection

The France collection inherited its manners from countryside kitchens that never apologized for a chipped teacup or a crooked shutter — faded rose, sun-bleached poppy, a peony that's seen a few decades. Every piece trades polish for something already lived-in. Coreopsis rarely gets cast as the centerpiece anywhere, so this one was built to hold a wall entirely on its own. A cooler peony rounds out the same warm sequence.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as a growing gallery wall, or laid flat as a no-water tablescape. The sun-warmed glaze on this carnation shifts subtly depending on which direction light enters the room, a detail no photograph fully captures. Laid flat on a table, that same shifting color becomes the surface's quiet anchor rather than a static object sitting there. It never wilts by whatever date it was actually bought for.

Complete the Look

The Pig Plant Pot brings the same unpretentious, slightly absurd energy as this coreopsis itself, a wildflower nobody takes too seriously paired with a pot that doesn't either. Both pieces are hand-finished in-house, just built for entirely different jobs on a desk or shelf. Add a small succulent and the whole pairing reads as genuinely fun rather than trying too hard.

Rarely the Centerpiece, Until Now

Chive Ceramics Studio opened in 2004 with a genuinely modest ambition — make a flower that outlasts the average office plant, which in most workplaces isn't setting the bar especially high. Twenty years of shaping petals by hand later, we've built a studio that treats overlooked flowers like coreopsis with the same care as anything more obviously showy. Every piece passes through a person's hands rather than a mold, which keeps the whole operation slower than it probably should be and nobody here seems to mind that fact. The overlooked ones still deserve real attention, as far as anyone working in this particular studio is concerned, coreopsis very much included in that list.

Frequently asked questions

How does a Orange Yellow Coreopsis hang on the wall?

A ceramic wall flower needs no special hardware to hang, just the built-in keyhole slot and a single screw. The Orange Yellow Coreopsis mounts flush against the wall in under a minute once that screw is properly set in place. No wire kit or separate hanger is required. A five-minute job, at most.

What is a memorable coworker leaving gift besides a card?

A memorable coworker leaving gift that isn't a gift card should feel personal without crossing into anything too intense for an office relationship. This coreopsis strikes that balance well — cheerful, decorative, and not loaded with meaning nobody asked for. It's a gift that reads as thoughtful without being complicated to explain.

Is a ceramic coreopsis a good going away gift for a coworker?

Yes, a ceramic coreopsis makes a good going-away gift for a coworker, since it's decorative and low-key without requiring any explanation about romantic significance, family history, or anything overly personal. The warm orange-yellow suits most home or office walls equally well, wherever they end up next. Going-away gifts work best when they don't require a lot of context.

What is a kitchen decor piece that warms a plain wall?

A kitchen wall decor piece that brings warmth to a plain wall should read as intentional rather than like leftover space that needed filling. This coreopsis's warm yellow-orange does exactly that, especially set against white or neutral kitchen walls that need a little life. A small piece doing real work in a real room.

What ships inside the box with a Orange Yellow Coreopsis order?

Yes, it comes gift-wrapped and ready to give, requiring no additional wrapping or assembly beyond mounting it with the included screw once you're ready. The packaging stays understated rather than flashy or over-designed. You can hand it over exactly as it arrives, straight from the box. That's the entire process, start to finish, from box to wall.

What is a gift for gardeners who grow coreopsis for cutting?

A gift for a gardener who grows coreopsis as a summer cutting flower shows a level of specificity most gift-givers skip entirely in favor of something safer and more generic. This piece captures the coreopsis's actual sunburst-like petal shape rather than a vague approximation of a flower. Gardeners notice when someone got the details right. This one gets them right.

How long does a ceramic coreopsis last versus a fresh one?

A ceramic coreopsis lasts indefinitely compared to a fresh coreopsis, which as a cutting flower typically holds up only a few days in a vase before wilting. This piece skips that entire decline and holds its shape permanently. Fresh cuttings are lovely for a short window. This one simply doesn't have a window.

Is a ceramic coreopsis a good gift for a wildflower gardener?

Yes, a ceramic coreopsis works as a coworker leaving gift for someone whose departure is being handled with strict professionalism rather than an office party. It reads as thoughtful without requiring an emotional speech to accompany it. Some departures call for quiet rather than a spectacle. This gift matches that tone exactly.
