Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

A 23rd anniversary gift should mark the specific strangeness of twenty-three years together, and this Milk Teal Tahitian Gardenia does that with a color no real gardenia has ever worn. The bloom's waxy, layered petals are recreated in fine ceramic, then finished in a cool, milky teal that reads as intentional rather than accidental — a piece of teal home decor that never needed a vase, water, or a single afternoon of upkeep. Most twenty-three-year milestones get overlooked between the bigger, rounder numbers; this one earns its own wall space instead. It hangs flat against plaster or leans into a gallery arrangement beside other ceramic blooms, holding its color and shape indefinitely. For the person who technically has everything, a flower that never wilts is the rare exception worth adding. The Indianapolis Museum of Art has carried Chive ceramic botanicals in past exhibitions, placing this same handcrafting process alongside recognized decorative arts.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

The Morning We Chose

We started with a real Tahitian gardenia sitting on the studio table for three days, watching it brown at the edges before we ever touched the clay. That's the part nobody tells you about designing a permanent flower: you have to study something that's actively dying in front of you and decide which moment of it deserves to last forever. We picked the second morning — petals still waxy, still holding their curl, right before the center starts to soften. Milk Teal wasn't the gardenia's idea. It was ours, a color note that reads as cool and composed instead of the warm cream the real bloom wears. Every petal is pressed and shaped by hand, one at a time, then fired until the color sets permanently into the surface. No two studio runs come out identical, which we consider a feature of working in a material that has its own opinions about heat. What survives the kiln is a flower that skips the part where it dies, keeping only the morning we liked best. It hangs on a wall the way the real thing never could — indefinitely, without a single drop of water, without a vase to keep topped off, without you ever walking past it and thinking, not yet, but soon.

Designed to Share the Same Room

France Robin's Egg Blue Stargazer Lily - Chive Ceramics Studio - Ceramic Flowers - Chive Ceramics Studio

The France collection inherited its manners from countryside kitchens that never apologized for a chipped teacup or a crooked shutter — faded rose, sun-bleached poppy, a peony that's seen a few decades. Every piece trades polish for something already lived-in. This gardenia's cool teal is a deliberate departure from anything a real Tahitian gardenia has ever worn. A more classic pink brings unexpected warmth to the pairing.

Avignon - Ceramic Flower Curated Collection - Chive Ceramics Studio - Ceramic Flower Sets - Chive Ceramics Studio

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as a growing gallery wall, or laid flat as a no-water tablescape. The Milk Teal Tahitian Gardenia holds its cool, composed color under any lighting condition, from a dim hallway to a sun-drenched breakfast nook, without shifting tone outdoors. Laid flat on a console or dresser, the same waxy petal structure reads as a still-life object rather than something meant only for a wall.

Complete the Vignette

Pair the Milk Teal Tahitian Gardenia with something that can hold an actual plant nearby, since not every surface in a room needs to commit to permanence. The Large Dyad Porcelain Pot in Soft Pink brings a living, growing counterpart to the display, its soft pink glaze contrasting gently against the gardenia's cooler teal without competing for attention. Together they read as a considered vignette rather than two separate purchases. One holds soil. One never will.

Chive artisan hand-made ceramic flower petal without molds with keyholes for hanging

Chive Ceramics Studio, Since 2004

Chive Ceramics Studio has been shaping flowers that don't know they're supposed to wilt since 2004. What started as a small studio experiment turned into a full practice built around one idea: the parts of a flower most worth keeping are usually the parts that disappear first. Fine ceramic holds detail the way nothing else does — every vein, every curled edge, every asymmetry a real petal earns from weather. Each piece is finished entirely by hand, which trades factory speed for real particularity about the curve of a petal. Nothing here ever gets molded once and repeated without a second look at proportions. A flower built to last forever should arrive already looking like it knows that.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Milk Teal Gardenia hang with one screw only?

Does a Milk Teal Gardenia hang with one screw only? Yes — one screw through the keyhole slot on the back is the entire mounting process, no anchor needed. Early prototypes fell off walls in ways that were educational for everyone involved before this design settled in. Ceramic is heavier than it looks, right up until it isn't. Then it just hangs there.

What is a unique 23rd anniversary gift for beautiful-object collectors?

A unique 23rd anniversary gift for beautiful-object collectors should skip the traditional list entirely, since nobody has ever successfully gifted "linens" and had it land. Twenty-three years in, most collectors already own the obvious pieces and are quietly hoping for something stranger. A ceramic gardenia that never needs water fits that gap precisely. It doesn't ask for anything back.

Is a ceramic gardenia a meaningful 23rd anniversary gift?

A ceramic gardenia becomes meaningful the moment someone realizes twenty-three years is not a number greeting cards plan around. Most anniversary gifts default to the round numbers, leaving the odd ones stranded without ceremony. This one exists specifically because twenty-three deserves its own object. It just took someone deciding that.

What is a gift for someone who has everything and means it?

A gift for someone who has everything and means it needs to solve a problem they didn't know they had, since every obvious problem is already solved. A permanent gardenia doesn't compete with what they own — it just refuses to die, which nothing else on their shelf can claim. That's the entire pitch. It holds up.

What ships inside the box with a Milk Teal Tahitian Gardenia order?

A Milk Teal Tahitian Gardenia ships with the ceramic piece, wall-mounting hardware, and care instructions that mostly say "do nothing." There's no assembly beyond attaching it to a wall, and no maintenance beyond occasionally dusting it. The packaging is gift-ready, in case second-guessing the occasion happens after checkout. It arrives finished.

Does a Milk Teal Tahitian Gardenia work as botanical interior decor?

A Milk Teal Tahitian Gardenia works as botanical interior decor precisely because it commits to a color no plant catalog has ever offered. Real botanical decor tends to apologize for itself in muted greens and safe creams. This one refuses that entirely, milky and teal, unbothered by convention. It just sits there.

How long does a Milk Teal Gardenia last versus a fresh one?

A Milk Teal Gardenia lasts indefinitely, while a fresh gardenia begins browning at the edges within a day of being cut from the plant. The real flower's fragrance is famous specifically because it doesn't stick around long enough to get boring, which is a strange way to be beloved. This one skips the fragrance entirely. It just keeps the shape.

Is a ceramic gardenia a good gift for a picky friend?

A ceramic gardenia works for a picky friend because pickiness is usually a symptom of having received too many wrong things. This one skips guessing about scent preferences, vase compatibility, or how long they'll actually keep a bouquet alive. It just hangs there, correctly, without needing anyone's ongoing commitment. Pickiness solved.
