Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

A 33rd anniversary gift has no fixed traditional material, which leaves room for a Burnt Yellow Poppy to make its own case on color and permanence alone. Poppies carry an outsized reputation for putting people to sleep in a field outside a city that technically doesn't exist, which is a lot to ask of a flower whose seeds mostly end up on a bagel. Burnt yellow steers clear of all that mythology, landing on a shade that reads as warm and handmade rather than narratively loaded. Ceramic keeps that color from ever fading, mounted with a single screw and no vase required. Thirty-three years in, most couples have stopped needing a traditional gemstone to make the point. SFMOMA has built a reputation on objects that hold difficult, in-between colors with total confidence. Chive Ceramics Studio has shaped pieces this warm by hand since 2004, one screw and ninety seconds to hang.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

The Poppy With a Reputation

In the field outside a certain fictional city, it was the poppies that put everyone to sleep. Not the flying monkeys. Not the guards. The flowers, doing their one job with a thoroughness nobody in that story ever quite recovered from. I've watched that scene more times than I'd like to admit and still can't fully trust a poppy afterward, which is an unreasonable grudge to hold against a flower that has never once put me to sleep in real life. Burnt Yellow suggests this particular poppy has been standing in that field for a very long time, unbothered by my suspicions or anyone else's. Ceramic removes the actual risk entirely, since nothing glazed and mounted to a wall has ever induced drowsiness in anyone, however dramatic the movie made it look. The papery, slightly crumpled petal texture survives fully intact, holding a warm, sun-worn yellow that no fresh poppy manages to hold onto once real wind gets involved outdoors. There's no pollen, no wilting, no narrative baggage carried over from the field. It hangs with a keyhole fitting and one screw, ready in under two minutes. The poppy's reputation, deserved or not, stays exactly where it belongs — in a movie, not on your wall.

One screw. One keyhole on the back. Ninety seconds and it's on the wall. The video shows exactly how it happens — no special hardware, no second holes, no contractor on speed dial. Whether you're hanging one piece or planning a full gallery wall, the hanging guide walks you through both.

Designed to Share the Same Room

Part of the France Collection

The France collection inherited its manners from countryside kitchens that never apologized for a chipped teacup or a crooked shutter — faded rose, sun-bleached poppy, a peony that's seen a few decades. Every piece trades polish for something already lived-in. This is the poppy responsible for putting an entire cast to sleep in a field outside a city that technically doesn't exist. A quieter, less mythologized lily makes a fitting neighbor.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as a growing gallery wall, or laid flat as a no-water tablescape. The sun-warmed glaze on this carnation shifts subtly depending on which direction light enters the room, a detail no photograph fully captures. Laid flat on a table, that same shifting color becomes the surface's quiet anchor rather than a static object sitting there. It never wilts by whatever date it was actually bought for. Complete the Look

A room already leaning warm can hold more than one warm object without feeling crowded, and the Large Dojo Porcelain Pot White proves it here. Sized larger than most pots in the pool, it holds real presence next to the mounted poppy without clashing. Watering it stays a weekly task; the poppy asks for nothing at all. Pairing the two furnishes a sunroom corner in a single order.

A Story This Flower Has Heard Before

Every Chive flower gets studied closely against its real counterpart well before any clay actually gets shaped, and the poppy took more attempts than most to get the papery, slightly crumpled petal texture right without it reading as stiff or overworked. Founded in 2004, the studio has always leaned toward flowers with some kind of reputation attached, whether that's fragility, mythology, or a scene in a well-known movie nobody can quite shake. Burnt Yellow Poppy fits that pattern closely. What survives the ceramic process is the color and the shape — the parts worth keeping — with none of the actual drowsiness or wilting the real bloom is known for. The result is a flower people recognize instantly, minus its one operational drawback.

Frequently asked questions

How does a Burnt Yellow Poppy hang on the wall?

A Burnt Yellow Poppy hangs using the keyhole fitting built into the ceramic back, which takes just one screw and no additional hardware at all. The process runs about ninety seconds from opening the box to it being level on the wall. Nothing needs adjusting after that. No drowsiness involved.

What is a distinctive 33rd anniversary gift for art lovers?

A distinctive 33rd anniversary gift for art lovers works best when it skips the generic gift-shop route entirely. A Burnt Yellow Poppy reads as a piece of wall art first and a gift second, glazed by hand rather than mass produced. Thirty-three years has no fixed traditional material, which leaves room for something considered instead. It stays exactly as given.

Is a ceramic poppy a good 33rd anniversary gift?

Yes — a ceramic poppy works well as a 33rd anniversary gift precisely because the year has no strict material tradition to follow. The warm, sun-worn color and papery texture read as intentional rather than default. It mounts permanently with one screw, unlike a bouquet gone within a week. It simply stays as it arrived.

Does a Burnt Yellow Poppy work as warm kitchen decor?

Yes — a Burnt Yellow Poppy suits a kitchen that already leans toward warm tones and natural materials, since the color reads close to turmeric or aged brass under normal light. It mounts safely near a stove without any fading or heat risk. No counter space is used at all. It just hangs.

What ships inside the box with a Burnt Yellow Poppy order?

A Burnt Yellow Poppy travels in a single box with the flower, one mounting screw, and a short printed guide covering the install. Nothing else is needed and nothing else is included. The packaging is rated to handle standard shipping without chipping the glaze. It's ready the moment the box opens.

Does a Burnt Yellow Poppy work as yellow-accented room decor?

Yes — a Burnt Yellow Poppy fits any room already using yellow as an accent color, since the warm, sun-worn tone reads as intentional rather than a mismatch. It pairs easily with neutral walls or a gallery cluster of other Chive pieces. No color-matching risk exists once it's glazed. The shade never shifts.

How long does a Burnt Yellow Poppy last versus a fresh poppy?

A fresh poppy rarely survives being cut at all, losing petals within hours of handling or a stiff breeze outdoors. A ceramic Burnt Yellow Poppy skips that fragility completely — the shape and color stay exactly as glazed, with no risk of shattering in transit or on the wall. It simply holds its place, always.

Is a ceramic poppy a good gift for warm color lovers?

Yes — a ceramic poppy makes a fitting gift for someone who gravitates toward warm colors in their home, since the burnt yellow tone works as a standalone piece or part of a larger palette without any color-matching risk. It requires no maintenance and no seasonal rotation. It simply stays that color.
