There's No Such Thing as Just One Ornament

Pick a favorite. Then accept that "just one" was never really an option.

Chihuahua gifts tend to make the dog into a joke, and the Chihuahua with Collar Ornament refuses. This is glasswork done by hand — a small painted collar on a smaller glass dog — and it carries itself the way the breed does: fully informed of its size and certain the information is not relevant. The chihuahua approaches large dogs with the confidence of something that has never been told no in a way that stuck. It sits in laps with the authority of something that has decided this is its place, and the lap agrees — and if the lap does not agree, the chihuahua will wait, because the chihuahua has time and a very specific idea of how this ends. Get this for the owner who stopped explaining the dog because the dog explains itself. The collar helps. A little. Not really. File it next to the Royal Ontario Museum's smallest, fiercest specimens.

The Story Behind This Ornament

The dog's name is Rocco and the incident is legend. My cousin brought him to a family barbecue — eleven people, two labs, one bloodhound the size of a loveseat — and Rocco, four pounds in a red collar, walked the perimeter of that yard like a building inspector finding violations. He took the bloodhound's spot in the shade. Not a corner of it: the spot, the center, while the bloodhound stood nearby holding a look I can only describe as filing a complaint with no one. Rocco then spent the afternoon in the lap of my uncle, a man who had announced within earshot of everyone that he was "not a small dog person." By the potato salad course my uncle was feeding him brisket by hand. By dessert he was asking about the breed. Rocco has since attended every family function as my uncle's guest, arriving in outfits, and the two of them sit together at the kids' table by choice, a four-pound dog and a two-hundred-pound man, entirely at peace with the arrangement they both pretend the other one initiated. This ornament is Rocco. It is every Rocco. Hang it high on the tree — he would insist on altitude — and let him survey the room he already owns.

Care Tips

Storage Do’s and Don’ts:

(Because Yes, They’re Fragile)

  • Do wrap each ornament individually in soft tissue paper, bubble wrap, or a gentle cloth. (No, shoving them in a shoebox with tinsel does not count.)
  • Don’t let them clink around in a box together. That’s a recipe for heartbreak and glittery shards.
  • Do store them in a sturdy container (plastic bins with dividers = chef’s kiss) and keep it in a cool, dry place — no attics or sketchy basements, please.

Pro Tip: Label the box like your life depends on it.

Write it on every side, not just the top, since nobody unloading a truck reads the top first. If you're storing these for next year, do future you a favor and note what's inside beyond just "ornaments." A little specificity now saves a lot of bubble wrap archaeology in eleven months.

More Animal Christmas Ornaments

Our Animal collection is a census of the creatures who actually run our households, taken in hand-painted glass. The chihuahua claims the executive branch; the Golden Dog ornament hangs close, winning the popular vote by a mile.

Hand-Blown Glass Christmas Ornaments

Hand-painted glass rewards the close look, and every Chive ornament is made to be inspected at arm's length — the distance where trees are actually enjoyed. The chihuahua's whole worldview lives in the set of that tiny painted head, and owners recognize it instantly. Our animal christmas ornament collection holds more postures somebody you know will recognize.

Ceramic Flowers That Never Wilt

The chihuahua holds the tree for one month; Chive's ceramic flowers hold the rest of the residence year-round. Hand-built clay stems, glazed and permanent, they bring the same energy as the dog: small, decorative in theory, completely in charge of the room in practice. Chihuahua owners tend to understand this instantly. Their homes already run on the principle. One more confident small thing will fit right in.

About Chive Studio

Since 2004 this studio has designed for households where the smallest member holds the most authority — a demographic we did not anticipate and now serve with total commitment. The year runs on ceramic flowers and pots, on vases and on seeds; December runs on hand-made glass ornaments portraying the animals people actually answer to. Everything begins in our own sketchbooks and ends as slow handwork, painted one piece at a time. We take small subjects seriously here, and we build them to last the decades their originals believe they are owed. The chihuahua sat for this portrait with complete composure. It never doubted the likeness would be flattering. It was right, which is the most chihuahua outcome available.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find good chihuahua gifts online?

Good chihuahua gifts are rarer than they should be — most of them make the dog into a punchline, and the dog has reviewed that framing and disagrees. This hand-blown glass chihuahua takes its subject at the dog's own valuation: significant. You can order it right here, shipped to your door. The dog would call that appropriate service.

Is the Chihuahua with Collar ornament right for yankee swap?

Yankee swap players scout packages by size, which is exactly how the chihuahua wins — smallest box in the pile, dismissed all evening, opened last by whoever drew the short turn. Then it comes out of the tissue and the room recalculates everything. Underestimation is this breed's home terrain. The glass version campaigns identically.

Is the Chihuahua with Collar ornament a good gift for coworkers?

It is — office-safe, explanation-free, and warmer than a gift card by a very wide margin. Every workplace contains at least one person whose desktop wallpaper is a chihuahua in a sweater, and that person has waited years for proper acknowledgment. This gift fits inside a desk drawer but will never live in one. This is the acknowledgment.

Is the Chihuahua with Collar ornament made of real blown glass?

Yes — genuine blown glass, shaped by hand over a flame, with the collar and the face painted individually before the metal cap and hanging loop go on. There is no plastic and no mold-line anywhere on the piece. The craftsmanship holds up under close inspection, too. The chihuahua expects nothing less around here.

How big is the Chihuahua with Collar ornament on the tree?

It measures 3.74 inches long, 2.09 inches wide, and 3.54 inches tall — which makes the glass version very nearly life-sized, a fact we find delightful and the breed finds unremarkable. On the branch it reads as a full presence. Exactly as its subject reads in any room.

How do I safely pack away the Chihuahua with Collar ornament?

Original box, original tissue, and a stable closet shelf — the standard care for hand-painted glass, applied for the months the tree is down. Done properly, the paint and the posture survive for decades of Decembers. The dog it portrays maintains itself with similar discipline. Grooming matters to both of them.

Do you have more animal ornaments like the Chihuahua with Collar?

Many — the Chihuahua holds court in our full animal christmas ornament collection, among golden retrievers, pugs, and one cat in a bow it regards as a professional rival. A tree can host the animal kingdom's entire org chart at once. The chihuahua assumes the top spot is its own. Let it.

Is the Chihuahua with Collar ornament packaged ready for gifting?

It is packaged ready for travel — sturdy, protective, glass-first — rather than ready-for-the-handoff gifting, so add your own paper before the exchange. The dog is compact and forgiving and wraps in well under a minute, any paper you have. Everything that matters arrives perfect: collar, face, attitude. The presentation budget is all yours.

A Promise Fresh Flowers Can't Keep

Fresh flowers make a promise they cannot keep. A Chive ceramic flower skips the wilting and arrives with the kind of presence that suggests someone spent real time choosing it, whether or not that is true. No water. No sunlight. No expiration date to plan around.
