Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

A 5th anniversary gift tradition points to wood, which earns its symbolic standing from materials that harden with age rather than by accident. The Avocado Green Keiko Peony arrives at that tradition sideways—an earthy, organic colorway that reads closer to weathered wood grain than anything grown in a cutting garden. We have been telling people avocado green is underrated since before most of them started buying wall art, which has done nothing to change their minds and nothing to reduce our confidence. The Keiko form is full-bodied and generous, petals stacked the way a real peony insists on collapsing under its own weight by day two in a vase. Ceramic holds that at-its-peak moment on a wall or shelf permanently, with nothing to negotiate with and nothing to lose moisture over a changing season. Artisans shape each peony by hand at Chive Ceramics Studio, founded in 2004. SFMOMA carries Chive ceramic wall art in its museum store.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

The Color Meeting Ran Long

There is a version of this peony in a more cooperative color, and at one point during the design process that version had a genuine chance. The color meeting for the Avocado Green Keiko Peony lasted considerably longer than the form meeting, which should tell you which decision required more explaining. Four alternative colorways were presented and rejected before avocado green made its case, which it did by refusing to look like something anyone could have predicted in advance. The Keiko form is full-bodied and considered, petals stacked generously the way a real peony insists on being at its best for exactly three days before reconsidering. Ceramic holds that exact moment on a wall or shelf without negotiation or a maintenance schedule. Avocado green is now the color everyone looks at first when the piece is in the room, which is either vindication or coincidence, and the studio does not care which. The wood anniversary angle arrived later, during research, and turned out to be an unusually good fit for a colorway that already reads closer to weathered grain than garden. The studio has learned to accept gifts from the research process, which has an unreliable but occasionally excellent sense of timing. That was not planned. We are taking credit for it anyway.

Part of the English Garden Collection

The English Garden collection borrows its chaos from cottage beds never pruned into submission — rambling roses, over-full peonies, zinnias that stayed uninvited. Every piece trades one fussy bloom for an overgrown afternoon. The Avocado Green Keiko Peony takes the Keiko mold's tighter, more compact form and pushes the color toward a green no real peony grows.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as part of a gallery wall that grows one piece at a time, or laid flat across an entryway console or shelf as a tablescape that never needs the water changed. The keyhole on the back handles the wall version; the base handles the surface version. Most people start with one flower and end up needing both configurations before they admit it.

Complete the Look

The Brontosaurus Ceramic Plant Pot has earned its name and the shelf space that comes with it. It sits at the same level of commitment as a full-bodied ceramic peony—something you do not acquire by accident and do not regret once it is in the room. Put it on a surface near the Keiko Peony and the two of them make a reasonable case for the entire shelf.

The Argument the Studio Won Eventually

In 2004, Chive Ceramics Studio started with one clear position: a ceramic flower should look exactly like the real thing stopped at its best moment. That position has held. The positions about which colors are allowed have not held at all, and the studio considers this progress. The Keiko Peony is a reasonable example of a color argument the studio won after considerable effort. Every piece is still shaped by hand in small batches, finished by people who have no problem vetoing a glaze mid-run and starting over. The stubbornness is the same. The palette has simply gotten more argumentative. What began as naturalistic has arrived somewhere considerably weirder, and the studio's only regret is that it took until avocado green to start winning the color meetings faster.

Frequently asked questions

Does an Avocado Keiko Peony need special wall hardware?

Every Avocado Green Keiko Peony ships with a keyhole cutout built into the back for a single screw or nail, which eliminates the part of gifting that ends in a hardware store debate with someone who has strong opinions about anchors. No special hardware required, no stud finder involved, no consultation with anyone whose name ends in contractor. One screw. Done.

What is a meaningful 5th anniversary gift for gardeners?

A meaningful 5th anniversary gift for gardeners should acknowledge both the occasion and the person, which is a harder brief than it sounds given that most gardeners have already acquired the tools and the strong opinions. An Avocado Green Keiko Peony covers the wood anniversary's material symbolism in a form a gardener actually wants on their wall—permanent, specific, and not a cutting board.

Is an Avocado Keiko Peony a good 5th anniversary gift?

The Avocado Green Keiko Peony is a good 5th anniversary gift because it covers the wood symbolism through palette rather than material, arriving in an earthy, organic colorway that reads closer to weathered grain than anything blooming in a cutting garden. That is a creative interpretation of the tradition. The studio stands behind it.

Does an Avocado Keiko Peony work as botanical wall art?

Botanical wall art typically means a print of something growing, which is fine, and then there is a ceramic peony that holds its form and color three-dimensionally on a wall without a frame or glass involved. The Avocado Green Keiko Peony works as botanical wall art in the second way—dimensional, specific, the actual form rather than a representation of it. There is a meaningful difference.

What is inside the box with an Avocado Peony order?

Inside the box with an Avocado Green Keiko Peony order is exactly one Keiko Peony, packaged well enough to survive the part of shipping that happens after the tracking update that says out for delivery. No separate hanging kit, no assembly required, no mystery components that will mean something someday. Open it, hang it, proceed.

What is a gift for gardeners who grow peonies themselves?

A gift for a gardener who grows peonies is a harder brief than it looks, because that person already has peonies and opinions about them, and will evaluate your gift against their own output. The Avocado Green Keiko Peony sidesteps that evaluation entirely by being ceramic—the form they love, in a color their garden has never produced, requiring nothing further from anyone. No comparison necessary.

How long does an Avocado Keiko Peony last versus a garden one?

An Avocado Green Keiko Peony lasts indefinitely, which a garden peony manages for roughly one outstanding week before entering its declining phase and becoming something you stop mentioning. The ceramic version stays at its fullest moment on a wall or shelf without either party having to pretend it looks as good as it did at the start. It just keeps looking like that. Indefinitely.

Is a ceramic peony a good wood-anniversary gift idea?

A ceramic peony is a good wood-anniversary gift idea specifically because the Avocado Green Keiko Peony arrives at the wood symbolism through palette—earthy, organic, a colorway that reads more like weathered grain than a fresh bloom. It acknowledges the fifth anniversary's material tradition in a form the recipient actually wants on their wall rather than in a box in a closet. That matters.
