Avocado Green Keiko Peony

Nothing needed to be said. This has happened exactly twice.

Regular price $44.65

Keiko is a name that requires no explanation and offers none. The peony is avocado green. We put them together in twenty-five years of making things and stood back. Nothing needed to be said. This has happened exactly twice. The Keiko Peony is one of those times. The Keiko Peony In twenty-five years of making ceramic flowers there are two products where the combination of name and color arrived as a finished thing before anyone articulated why. The Keiko Peony is one of them. Avocado green ceramic glaze on a peony with the layered density that distinguishes a Keiko cultivar — the petals compress toward the center and then open outward in a way that the glaze catches differently depending on the angle of the light.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

The peony that requires no explanation and offers none

Keiko is a name that requires no explanation and offers none. The peony is avocado green, which is the color of a garden that has been making its own decisions since before we arrived, and it has the dense, layered construction of a flower that considers itself complete.

This is the thing about the Keiko Peony: it is the quietest object in this collection and also the one most likely to be the thing people ask about. Avocado green on a peony is a decision that explains itself on arrival. We made it ceramic. The decision stands.

Mid-century modern wall decor with botanical credentials

Mid-century modern wall decor works when the objects are clean in form and specific in color — things that belong to a vocabulary of design rather than decoration. The Avocado Green Keiko Peony fits this vocabulary. The dense peony form has a sculptural quality that reads as designed rather than merely decorative, and avocado green is the color that mid-century modern rooms understood instinctively before the rest of the world caught up.

It works alongside walnut furniture, ceramic vessels, architectural prints, and the other intentionally chosen objects of a mid-century interior. It is botanical and graphic simultaneously. We have placed it in mid-century rooms. It behaves as if it was designed for the period and is simply returning to where it belongs.

How to Hang Ceramic Flowers?

In 60 seconds or less

One discovers these flowers, each bearing a secret: a tiny keyhole nestled in the back, waiting for its destiny. The ritual feels almost predetermined - reaching into that dusty jar of orphaned screws, the ones squirreled away over countless home projects. Those odd bits of metal, collected like precious coins, finally finding their purpose. A quick twist of the drill, and there hangs beauty, supported by hardware whose previous life remains a mystery.

Frequently asked questions

How do you hang a ceramic wall flower without damaging the wall?

The avocado green Keiko Peony hangs with a keyhole slot on the back. One screw goes into the wall, the keyhole goes onto the screw, and the ceramic peony is on the wall in ninety seconds. The screw itself you provide. The ninety seconds is accurate. We have timed this.

What does a peony flower mean?

A 4th anniversary gift is traditionally flowers — the Keiko Peony is ceramic, which is technically not flowers and technically not the traditional material either but is in the spirit of both in the sense that it is beautiful, ceramic, and will still be on the wall on the 5th anniversary and the 15th. Ceramic lasts. That is the gift.

What is a good 4th anniversary gift?

Peony flower meaning in most traditions centres on prosperity, good fortune, and a kind of abundance that isn't self-conscious about itself. Peonies have been cultivated in China for over a thousand years specifically for what they represent. The avocado green version carries all of this with the additional quality of being extremely specific about its color, which peonies in the meaning literature are not usually required to be.

What is a good gift for a teacher?

Avocado green in a home office works because it is neither neutral nor demanding. It is the color of something that has already made its decision and is not asking for a response. The Keiko Peony on an office wall reads as intentional from across the room and interesting from up close, which is exactly the ratio you want for a space where you spend eight hours a day.

Where does avocado green work best in a home office?

A teacher gift that isn't a mug or a candle is a ceramic wall flower from a studio whose work is in the Chicago Field Museum. The Keiko Peony ships in branded packaging, hangs with one screw, and is the kind of thing someone puts on the wall of the room where they do their work rather than a shelf where things accumulate. It says I noticed what kind of person you are. That is the entire message. It is sufficient.

Does the Keiko Peony work in mid century modern wall decor?

Mid century modern wall decor is about clean lines and organic forms and colors that commit without competing. Avocado green is historically correct for the palette and the peony form is organic without being fussy. The Keiko fits into a mid century modern room the way a piece of furniture fits — it belongs to the aesthetic without announcing its membership.

Can this be sent as a last minute gift?

The Keiko Peony ships in branded Chive packaging and is ready to give without any additional preparation. It can be ordered and given within normal shipping windows. For genuinely last minute: yes, it qualifies. It arrives looking like a gift because it is one.

Did the Keiko Peony have any thoughts about being the only product in this collection where the name and the color arrived at the same time?

The Keiko Peony has not commented on this and we have not asked. We have a policy in the studio about not putting direct questions to products that are doing well. The Keiko Peony is doing well. The policy applies.
