Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

Zinnia flower meaning circles around lasting friendship and the remembrance of people no longer in the room—qualities that outlast most flower arrangements by a wide margin. The studio remains unapologetic about how far the Avocado Green Unicorn Zinnia takes that tradition. The Unicorn is the boldest variety the zinnia family produces: ruffled, layered petals that stack outward and have no particular interest in the concept of restraint. Hang it with other strong-willed pieces in a maximalist arrangement, let it anchor a gallery wall, or set it on a shelf where it considers the conversational space its due. Avocado green pushes that already-emphatic form further—there are quieter palette choices available, and none of them would have been right. No water, no maintenance, no gradual fading over a long autumn of not quite enough light on a windowsill that does not cooperate. Artisans shape each one by hand at Chive Ceramics Studio, founded in 2004. The Art Gallery of Ontario carries Chive ceramic wall art in its gift shop.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

The Studio Has No Regrets

The Avocado Green Unicorn Zinnia was not the path of least resistance, and the studio made it anyway, which is either a pattern or a philosophy depending on how charitably you are reading the situation. A zinnia called Unicorn requires a certain level of follow-through: the form needs to justify the name, the color needs to justify the form, and the result needs to look like a decision and not like something that happened during an unsupervised afternoon in the studio. The confidence here is not a position we worked backward from. We are satisfied that this one passes all three tests. The Unicorn variety is the boldest in the zinnia family—ruffled, layered petals that stack outward with the full conviction of a flower that considers subtlety someone else's problem. Avocado green pushes that already-emphatic form further into territory that quieter colorways would not survive. The zinnia's traditional meaning circles around lasting friendship and remembrance, which is a sentimental foundation this particular piece makes no effort to soften. It hangs on a wall or stands on a shelf and holds its position without water, light requirements, or any negotiation with the season. We have reviewed the available data and confirmed: no regrets.

English Garden Curated Collection - Hackney - Chive Ceramics Studio - Chive Ceramics Studio

Part of the English Garden Collection

The English Garden collection borrows its chaos from cottage beds never pruned into submission — rambling roses, over-full peonies, zinnias that stayed uninvited. Every piece trades one fussy bloom for an overgrown afternoon. The Avocado Green Unicorn Zinnia pushes the zinnia's already busy petal count even further, avocado green catching light unevenly on purpose.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as part of a gallery wall that grows one piece at a time, or laid flat across an entryway console or shelf as a tablescape that never needs the water changed. The keyhole on the back handles the wall version; the base handles the surface version. Most people start with one flower and end up needing both configurations before they admit it.

Complete the Look

The Svek Ceramic Pot is named with the same level of explanation the studio finds appropriate: none. It is a ceramic pot with a presence that matches its confidence, which is to say the presence is substantial and the confidence is documented. Pair it with a bold wall piece and the room has two objects that both know what they are doing.

Shop the Svek Ceramic Pot and add it to the shelf that needed one more thing to hold together.

The Palette Keeps Getting Harder to Defend

Somewhere between 2004, when Chive Ceramics Studio opened, and now, the studio's definition of a defensible palette changed considerably. Every piece still starts with a form that the studio is confident about—the Unicorn Zinnia's layered petals took several rounds before they held together the way they were supposed to. The color decisions have become progressively harder to explain in an elevator and progressively more correct once they are in a room. Avocado green is not the most recent example of this, but it is a good one. Every piece is still shaped and finished by hand in small batches, which means there is no quantity large enough to justify a color choice the studio does not believe in. That makes the Unicorn Zinnia in avocado green exactly as deliberate as it looks.

Frequently asked questions

Does an Avocado Unicorn Zinnia need special wall hardware?

Every Avocado Green Unicorn Zinnia ships with a keyhole cutout built into the back, which is the studio's way of confirming that the only tool required is a nail and a reasonable guess about where the wall is. No specialty hardware, no anchors for walls that do not need them, no YouTube tutorial required. Hang it, step back, done.

What does a zinnia mean as a maximalist gift?

Zinnia meaning centers on lasting friendship, endurance, and the remembrance of people no longer in the room—which is a foundation that survives a maximalist context without the symbolism getting lost in the decor. Something this bold in a room this committed is still saying the same thing; it is just saying it louder. That is fine.

Is an Avocado Unicorn Zinnia good for maximalist decor lovers?

Maximalist decor lovers who receive an Avocado Green Unicorn Zinnia have received something that already knows what room it is walking into. The ruffled, layered form and the emphatic green colorway both understand that a maximalist room is not a context where things go to be quiet. That is the whole brief. It competes well.

Does an Avocado Unicorn Zinnia work as bold maximalist decor?

Bold maximalist decor requires objects with conviction, and the Avocado Green Unicorn Zinnia has a documented and unrevisable opinion about how much it should stand out. The ruffled Unicorn form produces layered petals that stack outward without any visible interest in the word subtle. Avocado green confirms that decision. Together they belong there.

Is an Avocado Unicorn Zinnia a good budget-friendly gift idea?

An Avocado Green Unicorn Zinnia is a ceramic flower that lasts indefinitely, requires no upkeep, ships in packaging that takes the fragile situation seriously, and arrives ready to hang from the first afternoon. Within that set of characteristics, the value proposition is straightforward. It costs what a good permanent thing costs, and it stays permanent. That is the budget math.

What is a gift for a gardener who grows everything already?

A gift for a gardener who grows everything is genuinely difficult, because the gardener has opinions about what is growing and has already tried the thing you were going to suggest. An Avocado Green Unicorn Zinnia sidesteps the comparison entirely—it is ceramic, it is a colorway no garden produces, and it does not compete with anything in the yard. A different category entirely.

How long does an Avocado Unicorn Zinnia last versus a fresh one?

An Avocado Green Unicorn Zinnia lasts indefinitely, which is performance that a garden zinnia does not match even in the best light conditions and with the most attentive deadheading schedule. A fresh zinnia's run is measured in days; the ceramic version's run is not measured. Both are honest about what they are. One is on a wall.

Is a ceramic zinnia a good gift for a maximalist gardener?

A ceramic zinnia is a good gift for a maximalist gardener because it places the thing they love most—a bold, emphatic flower—in a permanent format that does not depend on the season, the light conditions, or the degree to which their current yard is cooperating. The Avocado Unicorn Zinnia has never had a bad year. That is what ceramic does.
