Ivory Snowdrop

She also comes up through the snow every February without being asked.

Regular price $34.65

The Ivory Snowdrop is the name of a very large white cat who belongs to someone who takes the cat to the vet in a carrier with her name embroidered on it. The cat has opinions about the carrier. She also comes up through frozen ground in January because that is what she has decided January is for and nobody has successfully argued with her about this in eleven years. The snowdrop does the same thing. It pushes through soil that has not fully decided to thaw and makes the argument for spring before spring has agreed to show up. 4.75 inches across. One screw. No water.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

The first flower of the year made permanent

The Ivory Snowdrop is a very small flower with a very large reputation for arriving first. It comes up through snow. It has been doing this since before anyone was paying attention and it has never mentioned it. We made it ivory, which is the color it has always been, and ceramic, which it has not.

This is the thing about a snowdrop made ceramic: the arrival is now permanent. It does not need the snow anymore. It does not need winter to be almost over. It is ivory and it is on the wall and it has been the first thing in the room since the day it arrived and it has not mentioned this either.

Bohemian wall decor from the first flower of the year

Bohemian wall decor works when each object has arrived from somewhere specific and settled in without being arranged. The Ivory Snowdrop has this quality. It is the first flower of the year — small, specific, the white of something that came up through snow — and it carries this origin in its form. In a bohemian room it is the object that looks like it was always going to be there.

It works alongside macrame, plants, collected objects, woven textiles, and the other arrived-from-somewhere objects of a bohemian interior. It is small enough to sit among larger things without disappearing and specific enough to hold its own. We made it ceramic. The arrival is now permanent and the snow is no longer required.

Frequently asked questions

How do I hang a ceramic wall flower using command strips or screws?

The ivory Snowdrop has a keyhole slot on the back and hangs with one screw — no drilling required beyond the screw itself, no brackets, no installation anxiety. Ninety seconds is accurate. The screw you supply. The confidence that this is the correct amount of effort for a ceramic flower you provide yourself, though most people arrive at it quickly.

What does a snowdrop mean?

A neighbor gift is one of the harder gifts because the relationship has a specific warmth and a specific boundary that most gifts misjudge in one direction or the other. The ivory Snowdrop in branded packaging hits the right note — it is ceramic, considered, and does not imply a level of intimacy that hasn't been established. It says I'm glad you're my neighbor. It does not say anything else.

What is a thoughtful neighbor gift?

Snowdrop meaning is almost entirely about hope and new beginnings — it is the flower that appears first after winter when nothing else has committed to spring yet, which is an extremely specific kind of courage. In the language of flowers it means consolation and hope. In practical terms it means that someone, somewhere, decided the ground wasn't going to stay frozen forever and came up anyway. The ivory ceramic version is on the wall year-round. The message is permanent.

Is this a good gift for someone who loves plants?

Ivory in a nursery is the most useful neutral that isn't quite white — it has warmth without the clinical quality that bright white can have in a small room. The Snowdrop on a nursery wall reads as soft and botanical and intentional. Against warm wood cribs, linen bedding, the gentle colors that nurseries tend toward — it belongs.

Does ivory ceramic work in nursery wall decor?

A gift for someone who loves plants is, paradoxically, often best not given as a plant. The ivory Snowdrop is a ceramic flower that hangs on a wall, requires nothing, and tells the recipient that you noticed what they care about without giving them another thing to water. This is the thoughtful version of a plant gift. The plant lover will understand this immediately.

Does the Snowdrop fit bohemian wall decor?

Bohemian wall decor is about organic forms, natural materials, and the aesthetic permission to put something beautiful somewhere because it's beautiful. The ivory Snowdrop in a bohemian space works because it is ceramic and has the botanical specificity that bohemian interiors tend to favor. It belongs with macramé, woven textiles, plants in every window, and the sense that whoever lives here made their own choices.

Is this ready for gift giving?

Yes. The ivory Snowdrop ships in branded Chive packaging — box and tissue — ready to give without any additional preparation. It arrives looking like a gift because it is one.

Does the Ivory Snowdrop have any position on being a flower that pushes through frozen ground for a living while the ceramic version hangs comfortably on a wall in a heated room?

The ivory Snowdrop has not engaged with this question and we have concluded this is the correct approach. It is a ceramic flower. It hangs on a wall. The actual snowdrop from which it takes its form pushes through frozen ground every January in conditions that most things find discouraging. The ceramic version has not been required to do this. We consider this an appropriate division of labor.
