Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

A thinking of you gift that holds for years is a different kind of gesture than one that holds for the week, and this is the entire case for ceramic. The Ivory Snowdrop droops the way snowdrops actually do — not from sadness but from a very deliberate refusal to perform cheerfulness in frozen February ground, a posture Chive Ceramics Studio spent some time getting exactly right. It mounts flat against a wall and holds that bloom year-round, requiring nothing from whoever sent it. Ivory is the right color for the snowdrop specifically: not white, which reads as arrival, but the color of something already on the other side of arrival and entirely at peace with it. Artisans shape these pieces by hand, which is why the droop angle varies slightly across pieces — within spec, and correct. The Utah Museum of Fine Arts carries Chive ceramic wall art in its museum shop.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

Small on Purpose

The snowdrop is the smallest flower you will ever feel genuinely judged by. It comes up in February, which is the month that exists primarily to make March feel like an achievement, and it does this in frozen ground that has given no indication of being interested in the project, in ivory, drooping in the specific way of something that is not sad but has simply opted out of the performance of cheerfulness, which by February most people find completely relatable.

My therapist — a woman named Dr. Wendy who had a plant in her office that I monitored weekly for signs of distress — once told me I had a tendency to locate my emotional life in external objects rather than in myself. The snowdrop is now in ceramic. It droops exactly as it always did. Dr. Wendy would have something to say about the fact that I find this comforting, and she would almost certainly be right.

The ivory on this piece is correct — not white, which would be a declaration, but something already past arrival and at peace with the season, not taking further questions. It hangs on a wall or rests on any surface and simply persists, which is the whole point of the snowdrop and always has been.

Part of the English Garden Collection

The English Garden collection borrows its chaos from cottage beds never pruned into submission — rambling roses, over-full peonies, zinnias that stayed uninvited. Every piece trades one fussy bloom for an overgrown afternoon. The Ivory Snowdrop keeps the real flower's modest, downward-facing bell shape, small enough to disappear into a larger arrangement on purpose.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as part of a gallery wall that grows one piece at a time, or laid flat across an entryway console or shelf as a tablescape that never needs the water changed. The keyhole on the back handles the wall version; the base handles the surface version. Most people start with one flower and end up needing both configurations before they admit it.

Complete the Look

The Tika in Greenery at eight inches is the pot for anyone who takes their plants seriously — a larger root system, a glaze in the grey-green range that suggests it was selected rather than defaulted to, and a saucer that drains properly rather than pooling. The snowdrop on the wall, the Tika beneath it: two objects that arrived at quiet in completely different ways, which is why they belong in the same corner of the room.

The Piece That Doesn't Need the Spotlight

The technical challenge with a flower this small is that accuracy at small scale reads differently than accuracy at large scale — the form has to be more precise, not less, because there is less material between a correct snowdrop and an approximate one.

The droop in particular took significant iteration at Chive Ceramics Studio: the angle has to be specific enough to read as snowdrop and not simply as damage, and achieving that consistency across hand-shaped pieces required building the stem and bloom in sequence rather than together.

The studio has worked on this kind of problem since 2004 — the flower that looks simple from a distance and reveals its difficulty up close. The ivory glaze on the Snowdrop is the same formula used across the studio's ivory line, adjusted at this scale to sit slightly warmer so it reads as intentional rather than underfired at smaller dimensions.

Frequently asked questions

How does an Ivory Snowdrop hang on the wall?

The Ivory Snowdrop hangs with a single standard screw in drywall — the keyhole slot on the back fits a standard picture-hanging screw and the whole process takes under two minutes. No special hardware, no anchors, no additional mounting required. At this scale the snowdrop also rests beautifully on a windowsill, a shelf, or any flat surface without hanging at all. Ships with a guide card.

What is a thoughtful gift idea for thinking of someone?

A thinking of you gift works when it carries some specificity — not the gesture of any flower, but one with a reading built into the form itself. The snowdrop has meant exactly this for centuries: a small, persistent bloom that shows up when conditions are difficult and does not ask for acknowledgment. Ceramic holds that reading indefinitely, without a vase or a five-day window. Already meaningful.

Is an Ivory Snowdrop a good thinking-of-you gift?

A thinking of you gift in ceramic is one where the symbolism doesn't expire at the same time the flowers do, which is the practical problem with sending fresh snowdrops and the entire argument for this piece. The Ivory Snowdrop ships gift-ready in protective packaging — the gesture is handled, the card is optional, and the recipient gets the credit for owning something this considered. Quietly correct.

Does an Ivory Snowdrop work as quiet vintage decor?

Vintage wall decor works when it reads as found rather than purchased, and the Ivory Snowdrop is one of the few contemporary pieces that achieves this — the small scale, the ivory, the particular droop of the form all read as something that has always been in the room. No season, no trend attachment, no material that ages into something that requires explanation. Stays exactly as it is.

Is an Ivory Snowdrop a good retirement gift for women?

A retirement gift for women benefits from carrying some actual specificity — the snowdrop has been associated with new beginnings and quietly earned persistence for centuries, which is not a bad reading for someone stepping into the next chapter with considerable competence and no interest in making a production of it. Ships gift-ready. Holds the bloom indefinitely. Considerably more interesting than a card.

What is a vintage decor piece for a calm, established room?

Vintage wall decor for a calm, established room is something with enough age in its form that it reads as always having been there — the Ivory Snowdrop qualifies on the form, the ivory, and the droop, all of which suggest patience rather than arrival. It hangs or rests on any surface without requiring rearrangement of anything around it. Small scale. Large presence. Stays.

How long does an Ivory Snowdrop last versus a fresh snowdrop?

An Ivory Snowdrop in ceramic lasts indefinitely — no frozen ground, no brief February window, no vase required. A fresh snowdrop, removed from its actual habitat of frozen February soil, gives approximately three to five days in a typical indoor environment before the droop becomes a different kind of droop. The ceramic version holds the correct droop for as long as it stays on display. No renegotiation required.

Is a ceramic snowdrop a good retirement gift for women?

A ceramic snowdrop is a retirement gift that carries a reading without requiring a card to explain it — the snowdrop has meant new beginnings and quiet persistence for long enough that the symbolism does not need to be announced. Ships protected and arrives ready, with no care required after delivery. Stays as long as the recipient keeps it, which is the whole point.
