Build Your Effortless Ambiance With These:

Choose a candle as your anchor, then round out the shelf with these for that thrown-together-but-somehow-perfect look.

An oud candle that opens with juniper berry and cypress before saltwater, sea kelp, and rainwater pull the middle somewhere oceanic and genuinely dark. Foxy is not the sweet, synthetic oud found in mall-counter fragrances — the oud minerals and guaiacwood at the base arrive dry and composed, backed by amber and cedarwood that give the finish enough structure to hold a room for hours without fading thin. Coconut-soy wax holds this particular profile steady by slowing fragrance release, stretching the oud across the full sixty-plus-hour burn rather than front-loading it all into the opening session alone. Two wicks form a complete melt pool in under forty minutes across the eight-ounce glass, the soy came from a single farm where it was pressed into wax on the same land, and the entire formulation — wax, wick, and fragrance oil — is vegan, phthalate-free, and poured by hand. A candle for rooms that take scent at least somewhat seriously.

Candle Care Instructions

Candle Care (Because You’re Basically an Adult Now)

  • Trim your wicks to ¼" before lighting. Unless you enjoy mushroom tops—no judgment.
  • Let it burn edge to edge the first time (3 hours minimum). This isn’t a speed date.
  • Keep those wicks centered and upright—like your standards.
  • Limit burn time to 4 hours per session. Even candles need a rest day.
  • When you’re down to ¼" of wax, it’s time to part ways. Try not to cry.

Bonus Round: Recycle & Reuse

Packaging? Fully recyclable.

That gorgeous glass jar? Don’t toss it. Give it a second life as a plant pot, makeup brush holder, or home for random paperclips. Because sustainability looks good on you.

The Scent Journey

Strike the match and Foxy opens sharp — juniper and red berry, crisp, bright, the air inside a store you'd pretend to browse just to keep breathing. Cypress greens it up from there, cool and almost minty, the note that straightens your posture without asking. Oud slides in behind that, smoky and low, the scent equivalent of someone lowering their voice on purpose. Saltwater and sea kelp float through the middle and suddenly the whole room smells coastal and expensive, like a hotel you'd need to google the nightly rate for. By the time it's fully going you've been promoted internally to someone who makes good decisions — someone who definitely didn't eat gas station sushi for lunch. The lie is delicious.

Soy wax, because we're not monsters

Vegan, clean-burning, and zero guilt. Your walls won't turn black, your lungs won't protest, and somewhere a soybean farmer is smiling.

Double cotton wicks

Two is better than one, like kidneys or chances at love. These babies throw scent like passive-aggressive comments at Thanksgiving dinner: thoroughly and effectively throughout the entire room.

The 15-minute rule

Good candles need foreplay. After a quarter hour, all those scent molecules start mingling like guests at an awkward party who finally found the wine. This is when the magic happens. Cheap candles? They peak immediately and disappoint forever.

What Oud Needs From the Wax Underneath It

Oud is the most polarizing note in fragrance — people who love it cannot get enough, and people who do not recognize it often describe it as medicinal or smoky without knowing why. The formulation in Foxy leans into the mineral side of oud rather than the sweet-resinous side, which means it reads earthy and composed rather than heavy. Guaiacwood reinforces that mineral quality by adding a dry, slightly smoky warmth that grounds the oud without competing with it. The juniper-cypress opening is deliberately green and sharp to give the nose a clean starting point before the heavier base notes arrive, and the saltwater-sea kelp middle acts as a palate cleanser between the two — oceanic enough to create space, not so aquatic that the oud loses its authority. The coconut-soy wax plays a specific role in oud delivery because oud molecules are large and slow to volatilize. Paraffin would overheat them, distorting the scent into something acrid. The lower melt point of this blend lets the oud compounds release gradually, which preserves the mineral character through the middle and tail of each burn session. The double wick matters here because oud performance depends on a full melt pool — if wax around the edges never liquefies, the oud trapped there never reaches the air. Two wicks eliminate that dead zone within forty minutes, so the throw is consistent from edge to edge.

The Philosophy of No Waste

(Or: How We Convinced Ourselves We're Saving the Planet)

✔ All our soybeans are grown right here, probably judging us from their stalks

✔ They travel a grueling half-mile journey to become wax (the carbon footprint of a hummingbird)

✔ Each candle is hand-poured into containers we're absolutely certain you'll repurpose for cocktails (we're optimists)

✔ It's farm-to-table, except it's farm-to-flame, which sounds more dangerous but isn't

✔ 100% vegan, biodegradable, and clean-burning—because apparently that needs to be said now

Perfect Pairs for Any Shelf

Modern Fling Candles - GIRLFRIEND Collection - Chive Ceramics Studio - Chive Ceramics Studio

Gorgeous Violet Candle

Gorgeous shares Foxy's wax and vessel but trades the dark oud profile for a floral arc anchored in violet, gardenia, and ylang ylang — lighter, greener, and built for daytime. The contrast between them is sharp enough that keeping both reveals how much range the same coconut-soy base actually has when the fragrance changes entirely.

The Modern Fling Collection

Twenty-four candles in the Modern Fling line share the same wax, vessel, and double-wick build — the difference is entirely fragrance. The collection page organizes them so you can find what neighbors Foxy's oud profile or discover something at the opposite end of the scent spectrum for a room that needs a different character.

Chartreuse Gladiolus ceramic wall flower mounted on a wall — Chive Ceramics Studio

English Garden Chartreuse Gladiolus

An oud candle with a dark, mineral finish deserves a shelf companion that holds its own visually, and the English Garden Chartreuse Gladiolus is a ceramic flower bold enough to share space with a scent this assertive. The chartreuse glaze reads bright against the dark fragrance in a way that creates tension — which is how a styled shelf stays interesting rather than just coordinated.

Vases Do Not Come Scented, But Maybe They Should

Chive Studio started in 2004 with ceramics, and the leap to candles happened only after we found a wax and a supply chain worth the commitment. Foxy was poured the same season we showed new work at Philadelphia Flower Show — the oud prototype sat on the design table between two ceramic vases, and someone asked if the vases came scented, which they did not but probably should.

Frequently asked questions

What does a oud scented soy candle smell like?

Oud in soy wax smells dark, mineral, and earthy — closer to wet stone than to smoke, though people unfamiliar with it sometimes describe it as medicinal on first encounter. Foxy opens with juniper and cypress to give the oud a green frame, and the saltwater middle pulls it oceanic before the guaiacwood base dries it out. My friend smelled it blind and guessed 'expensive hotel lobby at midnight,' which is a fair reading.

Is Foxy a good oud candle for the bedroom?

The base is dark but not heavy — guaiacwood and amber keep it grounded without suffocating the room. I burned one in a bedroom with the door closed and the oud lingered in the sheets overnight, which is either the point or a problem depending on how much you like waking up inside a scent. The juniper opening clears in the first twenty minutes, leaving the quieter oud notes for sleeping.

How many hours does the Foxy double wick candle burn?

Sixty hours minimum with proper care — quarter-inch wick trim, three to four hours per burn. My studio partner clocked his at sixty-one, and he tends to over-burn by leaving it lit during meetings he has forgotten he scheduled, so disciplined use should yield more.

Is this coconut soy candle clean burning and non toxic?

Sixty hours as the baseline, with regular trimming and sessions kept to four hours or shorter. My studio partner recorded sixty-one on his, and he habitually leaves candles going through meetings he forgets he has scheduled — so a more conscientious burner should beat that number without trouble.

What room size does the Foxy eight ounce candle fill?

Oud is a strong base note with serious throw, so Foxy fills a standard room of two hundred square feet thoroughly and reaches three hundred square feet with noticeable presence. Open floor plans dilute any candle, but the guaiacwood and amber base notes in Foxy have enough density to hold a living room without both wicks feeling inadequate.

Is the Foxy candle a good gift for someone who loves oud?

An oud enthusiast will appreciate that the oud here is mineral rather than sweet, layered with guaiacwood and juniper rather than vanilla or rose. It is a gift for someone whose taste runs specific — my colleague collects oud fragrances and said Foxy was the first candle that matched his expectations instead of disappointing them. He bought two more, unprompted.

Can I reuse the glass container after the Foxy candle burns down?

Freeze the vessel, pop the wax plug, rinse clean. The glass lends itself to holding a small air plant on a bathroom shelf — mine replaced the previous air plant that died from neglect rather than vessel failure. It works equally well for cocktail garnishes, spare buttons, or anything else that needs a clear, heavy container with no lid to lose.

Where is the Foxy soy candle made and is it vegan?

Produced entirely in the United States — the soy is cultivated and pressed on a single American farm, coconut wax blends in domestically, and the fragrance oils are loaded at the same facility where the pour happens. Cotton wicks. Zero animal-derived materials in any component. The supplier list is short, transparent, and entirely plant-based.
