Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

Cosmos flower meaning depends entirely on who's asked, and a man once stood in front of this exact piece and called it a wildflower while staring straight at its very deliberate, very glazed, very not-wild surface. He wasn't wrong exactly — the glaze pools blue into white in a way that resembles weather more than craftsmanship, more like something that happened to the clay than something someone made from it. Kept as beach-style decor, it holds that pattern permanently, needing neither water nor attention from whoever owns it. A distinctive gift for an aunt should carry a story worth repeating over dinner, and this piece already comes with one built in. Chive has been building pieces this way, by hand, since the studio's founding in 2004. This maker's ceramics have passed through the Brooklyn Botanic Garden shop before now. We've decided he was right for the wrong reasons. We're taking it.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

Ivory Chrysanthemum ceramic wall flower styled on wall — Coastal Collection — Chive Studio Toronto

Unique coastal decor, original flower designs in 200+ art galleries and institutions worldwide

A man once stood in front of this exact piece and called it a wildflower, said with the particular conviction of someone who has never once been asked to defend a claim like that. He was looking directly at a very deliberate, very glazed, very manufactured ceramic surface at the time, and he said "wildflower" the way people say things they believe completely without a shred of doubt attached. The cosmos received this misidentification in silence, which is really the only appropriate response available to an inanimate object being confidently misread by a stranger. The studio has thought about this man considerably more than the situation probably warrants. He wasn't wrong exactly, which is the maddening part of the whole exchange. There is something in this particular glaze pattern that resembles weather more than it resembles craft — the color spreading across the surface the way weather moves across a landscape, rather than anything anyone in the studio actually planned. The studio has landed on the most generous possible interpretation available: he was right, for entirely the wrong reasons, and that's still closer to correct than most confident misidentifications ever manage to get. They're taking it as a win regardless of the reasoning behind it.

Designed to Share the Same Room

Ivory Comanche Peony ceramic wall flower styled on wall — Coastal Collection — Chive Studio Toronto

Not every piece in a room needs to blend in — this one is built to be the thing your eye lands on first, then works outward from there. This cosmos's weather-like glaze finds an interesting companion in the Nantucket Daisy, another piece from the same Coastal set built around a similarly organic, open form that resists a tidy explanation.

Blue White Lexi Cornflower ceramic wall flower styled on wall — Coastal Collection — Chive Studio Toronto

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as a growing gallery wall, or laid flat as a no-water tablescape. This cosmos's weather-like glaze pattern makes it a strong visual anchor in a grouped arrangement, especially set beside flatter, more literal blooms picked from other pieces in the collection. The contrast between an organic-reading surface and a more structured shape nearby gives a wall arrangement real depth rather than visual repetition across the board. Plain and unfussy, the Casey Pot never tries to out-argue this cosmos's own strange, weather-like glaze pattern for attention on the same shelf space. A simple rounded form beneath a piece that one visitor mistook for an actual wildflower makes sense as a pairing choice — the pot lets the more unusual object stay the one people actually look at twice.

The Safe Color Was Never Safe. — Coastal Collection.

Every so often a piece comes out of the kiln looking less like a designed object and more like something that simply occurred, and the studio has learned not to fight that outcome. This has been true since 2004, through every glaze reformulation and every new collection added since. The unpredictability isn't a bug the studio is trying to fix. Two decades of small-batch production has made peace with letting the kiln decide plenty of things. Unplanned results have never been treated as mistakes worth correcting after the fact. This particular cosmos is one clear example of that pattern, glazed in a way nobody in the room actually planned before the kiln finished its work.

Frequently asked questions

How does a Blue White Cosmos hang on the wall?

One screw handles the mounting for the Blue White Cosmos entirely — the hanging catch sits in the rear from manufacturing, already balanced enough that it never tilts sideways. No wire, no second piece of hardware, no measuring required first. Most walls take well under ten minutes to finish the job.

What does a cosmos flower mean as a gift?

A cosmos flower means openness and harmony as a gift, though this particular piece has also been mistaken for an actual wildflower by at least one confident stranger standing right in front of it. Either interpretation works in its favor honestly. The glaze pattern genuinely does resemble something that happened naturally rather than something deliberately designed by anyone.

Is a ceramic cosmos a good birthday gift idea?

Birthdays come with a fair amount of disposable gifting — cards that get recycled, flowers that wilt within the week. A ceramic cosmos breaks that pattern by sticking around indefinitely, holding its color and shape well past the day it was given. That permanence tends to register more the second or third year running.

Does a blue and white cosmos work as beach decor?

Beach decor tends to reward pieces that look a little imperfect or weathered rather than crisp and obviously manufactured. This cosmos's glaze pattern, which one visitor mistook for an actual wildflower, leans hard into that weathered quality. It fits a coastal room's aesthetic more naturally than a sharper, more polished piece would.

What ships inside the box with a Blue White Cosmos order?

The Blue White Cosmos comes packaged to be handed over exactly as it arrives, no additional wrapping paper needed at any point. A card inside briefly covers the mounting screw. There's nothing further to buy separately — it's ready for display the same afternoon it shows up. No tools beyond a screwdriver are genuinely needed for setup.

What is a distinctive gift for an aunt?

A distinctive gift for an aunt should come with an actual story attached, and this piece has one built in already — a stranger once mistook it for a real wildflower while standing directly in front of it. That kind of anecdote makes for better gift-giving conversation than most alternatives on the market.

How long does a ceramic cosmos last versus a fresh one?

A fresh cosmos bloom lasts under a week before the petals begin curling and dropping. This piece was never running on that same timeline — the glaze holds its exact color and shape indefinitely, no water needed, no trimming required, and no eventual trip to the compost bin once the color would fade.

Is a ceramic cosmos a good gift for an aunt?

An aunt who appreciates a genuinely unusual story alongside a gift tends to remember this cosmos longer than a generic bouquet or candle set. The wildflower mix-up story gives it an actual opening line worth repeating. That kind of built-in narrative rarely comes standard with most gift-aisle options available elsewhere.
