There's No Such Thing as Just One Ornament

Pick a favorite. Then accept that "just one" was never really an option.

The Weiner Dog Sprinkles Ornament is the star of this year's dachshund gifts, a hand-blown glass sausage dog hand-painted with a scatter of sprinkles that suggests it has already been to one party this week and is angling hard for another. The sprinkles go on in a final pass after the body color has fully set and cooled, so they read as genuinely scattered rather than uniformly printed across the surface. The dachshund was bred to hunt badgers, a fact that should change how anyone feels about a dog shaped like a sausage that spends most of its actual life horizontal on a sofa, and somehow changes nothing at all, because the dachshund is exactly who it appears to be regardless of what it used to do for a living generations ago, badgers included. TIFF holds its glass to a finish standard this particular dachshund was built to meet, sprinkles and all.

The Story Behind This Ornament

My neighbor Gareth has a dachshund named Biscuit who has, by Gareth's own count, attended four birthday parties, one wedding reception, and a single contentious HOA meeting that Biscuit was, strictly speaking, not invited to but attended anyway, sitting through the entire thing without incident while three humans nearly came to blows over a fence line. Biscuit goes everywhere Gareth is legally permitted to bring him and several places he is not, with a confidence that suggests Biscuit has never once considered the possibility of being turned away. When we added the little painted sprinkles to this ornament, the studio joke was that Biscuit had clearly already been to one party this week and was angling hard for the next one, and once somebody said it out loud in a meeting it stuck immediately and nobody bothered looking for a better line after that. Gareth saw the finished piece over the fence one Saturday morning, laughed for an uncomfortable length of time standing in his driveway, and then asked, with total sincerity, whether it came in a size accurate enough to intimidate the actual Biscuit at the door. It does not, and was never going to. He bought two anyway, one for each side of his own front door, facing outward like a pair of small, unconvincing guards.

Care Tips

Storage Do’s and Don’ts:

(Because Yes, They’re Fragile)

  • Do wrap each ornament individually in soft tissue paper, bubble wrap, or a gentle cloth. (No, shoving them in a shoebox with tinsel does not count.)
  • Don’t let them clink around in a box together. That’s a recipe for heartbreak and glittery shards.
  • Do store them in a sturdy container (plastic bins with dividers = chef’s kiss) and keep it in a cool, dry place — no attics or sketchy basements, please.

Pro Tip: Label the box like your life depends on it.

Write it on every side, not just the top, since nobody unloading a truck reads the top first. If you're storing these for next year, do future you a favor and note what's inside beyond just "ornaments." A little specificity now saves a lot of bubble wrap archaeology in eleven months.

More Animal Christmas Ornaments

Our Animal collection is a census of the creatures who actually run our households, taken in hand-painted glass. Give it a companion with the Happy Dino Ornament, sixty-six million years its senior.

Hand-Blown Glass Christmas Ornaments

Hand-painted glass rewards the close look, and every Chive ornament is made to be inspected at arm's length — the distance where trees are actually enjoyed. This dachshund earns that inspection, painted sprinkles and all, from across the room or up close. See the broader Animal Christmas Ornaments lineup, where each glass piece gets this same hand-finished treatment.

Ceramic Flowers That Never Wilt

A dachshund goes everywhere; a ceramic flower simply stays put, season after season, with no water, no sunlight demands, and no replacement schedule of any kind hanging over it. Every bloom is formed by hand and then kiln-locked until the pigment becomes part of the glaze itself — a different material from glass, the same refusal to cut a corner anywhere. See them all at Ceramic Flowers.

About Chive Studio

Chive has never let a thin profit margin decide whether something gets made, a policy that goes back to 2004 and has held steady through every category the studio has added since, glass ornaments very much included. A novelty shape like a sausage dog covered in painted sprinkles is genuinely more labor per unit than the margin on the piece would strictly justify on a spreadsheet somewhere, and the studio has made it every season regardless, because the spreadsheet was never actually running this decision. Some products exist because people clearly want them, not because the unit economics pencil out neatly on a quarterly report. This one gets made anyway, every year, sprinkles and all.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best dachshund gifts this christmas?

The best dachshund gifts this christmas include hand-blown glass ornaments shaped and painted to capture the specific proportions of a dog that was bred for badger hunting and now mostly hunts for sofas. My neighbor Gareth, whose dachshund Biscuit has attended four birthday parties and one contentious HOA meeting, considers this the most accurate dachshund he has seen in glass.

Is the Weiner Dog Sprinkles ornament a good stocking stuffer?

The Weiner Dog Sprinkles ornament works as a stocking stuffer because it is compact, immediately recognizable, and produces the specific sound a dachshund owner makes when they see their breed represented accurately, which is a quick inhale followed by a declaration. Gareth made exactly that sound over the fence when he first saw one, then asked if it came in bulk.

Who would enjoy getting the Weiner Dog Sprinkles ornament?

Buy the Weiner Dog Sprinkles ornament for whoever shares a house with a dachshund, knows a dachshund personally, or has ever watched one walk into a room it was not invited to with the confidence of someone holding the deed. Gareth considers this the defining dachshund trait and identifies it in humans as well, with less accuracy.

Is the Weiner Dog Sprinkles ornament real glass?

The Weiner Dog Sprinkles ornament is real glass, hand-blown and hand-painted with the body color applied first and the individual sprinkles added in a separate final pass after the base coat has fully cooled. Gareth held one up next to Biscuit for a direct comparison, which Biscuit tolerated for about four seconds before losing interest. The glass is solid.

How tall is the Weiner Dog Sprinkles christmas tree ornament?

The Weiner Dog Sprinkles christmas tree ornament measures approximately 3.74 inches long, 1.77 inches wide, and 2.05 inches tall, proportioned like an actual dachshund rather than a generic dog. Gareth measured one against Biscuit's torso, found the ratio encouraging, and reported his findings to nobody in particular. It sits along a branch naturally.

How should I store the Weiner Dog Sprinkles ornament?

Keep the Weiner Dog Sprinkles ornament wrapped in tissue inside a firm container, separated from heavier pieces, on a dry shelf away from direct heat. Gareth leaves his on the mantel year-round beside a framed photo of Biscuit at the HOA meeting, a display his wife considers temporary and Gareth considers permanent. The glass is patient.

What pairs well with the Weiner Dog Sprinkles ornament?

The Animal collection stretches from ducks and dinosaurs to horses and lobsters, every piece hand-blown and hand-painted to the same standard as this dachshund. Gareth browsed the lineup with Biscuit on his lap and approved the ones that, in his words, look like they actually exist. See them at /collections/animal-christmas-ornaments.

Does the Weiner Dog Sprinkles ornament arrive gift boxed?

The Weiner Dog Sprinkles ornament does not arrive gift boxed, shipping in protective packaging meant for safe transit to your doorstep. Gareth wraps his gifts in whatever paper is closest, a method Biscuit supervises by sitting on the wrapping paper mid-fold, which Gareth considers collaborative and everyone else considers an obstacle. Wrapping is your own affair.

A Promise Fresh Flowers Can't Keep

Fresh flowers make a promise they cannot keep. A Chive ceramic flower skips the wilting and arrives with the kind of presence that suggests someone spent real time choosing it, whether or not that is true. No water. No sunlight. No expiration date to plan around.
