Polyps sway in the current, open to feed and close when startled, and are generally easier to admire than to keep. The Champagne Pink Sea Polyp offers the admiring part only. Five inches wide and 2.5 inches deep, this ceramic polyp has short, curved tentacles glazed in a muted, slightly warm blush. It hangs on one screw. It does not need water, salt or a light schedule. Of all the pieces in the Coral collection it is the quietest, the one most likely to end up in a bedroom, and the least likely to startle anyone.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

What people are saying

A Softer Polyp

Most polyps in the collection are glazed bright, the way they look under reef light, but this one went the other direction. Champagne pink is a muted, slightly warm blush, and on a form made almost entirely of soft tentacles it reads gentle rather than tropical. We kept the tentacles a little shorter and more curved than on the chartreuse version, so the piece looks relaxed rather than mid-feed. That small change mattered more than expected. Long, straight arms in a pale color looked brittle in early tests, while shorter curved ones read as soft, closer to the way polyps sway in a current. The glaze pools faintly deeper toward the center, giving the piece a quiet sense of depth without introducing a second color.

Pale Glazes Show Everything

A pale glaze is harder to get right than a bold one, a lesson Chive has relearned on plenty of pieces since 2004. A saturated color hides small variations in a surface, while a soft blush shows every one of them, which means the shaping underneath has to be cleaner before the glaze goes on. Pieces like this become a test of restraint, removing detail until what remains looks deliberate in a quiet color. On the champagne pink polyp that meant shortening the tentacles and giving them a gentle curve, a change that would barely register on a brighter piece. It is one of several places in the Coral collection where the color decided the shape rather than the other way around.
