Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

Chrysanthemum meaning has long centered on quiet loyalty and gentle optimism, and Ivory Chrysanthemum carries that meaning without raising its voice. Cast in ivory, the piece exists calmly on a wall, doing exactly what a chrysanthemum in this shade is supposed to do: nothing dramatic, nothing that asks to be explained. It reads naturally as beach wall decor, where a lighter palette lets the shape do the talking, and works as a gift for a daughter-in-law who prefers pieces that don't compete with a room. Chive ceramics studio has been shaping this glaze by hand for over two decades, and the ivory tone still settles into its own small variations from piece to piece. There's nothing to prune, nothing to feed, and nothing that fades with a season. Atlanta Botanical Garden carries a changing lineup of Chive ceramic pieces in its own shop, including this chrysanthemum, alongside the garden's living collection of gentler, ivory-toned blooms.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

Ivory Chrysanthemum ceramic wall flower styled on wall — Coastal Collection — Chive Studio Toronto

Unique coastal decor, original flower designs in 200+ art galleries and institutions worldwide

A chrysanthemum, in ivory, doing exactly what an ivory chrysanthemum is supposed to do — which is to say, existing calmly on a wall and saying absolutely nothing about itself. No opinions. No commentary on the room. It just hangs there, quiet and composed, letting everything around it do the talking.

This is one of the pieces people buy specifically for a white room, which you'd think would be the end of the story, except it never is. Without fail, within a week of the order shipping, someone writes in to clarify their walls. "More of a warm white, really." Sometimes it's "off-white with a hint of grey." Once, memorably, someone described their wall color as "a very shy beige," which I still think about.

We did not ask for any of this information. The order form has no field for it. And yet it arrives anyway, unprompted, tacked onto the end of a shipping question, like a confession nobody required. I've started to think it's less about the wall and more about wanting the flower to know where it's going to live. Which, honestly, is sort of sweet, even if I have nothing useful to do with the information once I have it. I file it away. I treasure it regardless. That's the whole system.

Designed to Share the Same Room

Ivory Comanche Peony ceramic wall flower styled on wall — Coastal Collection — Chive Studio Toronto

Part of the Coastal Collection

The Coastal collection picked up its ease from porches that never worried about salt air, since nothing here was ever precious — driftwood pale, sea glass blue, a shell-toned bloom left weathered. Every piece trades gloss for something sun-faded. Ivory Chrysanthemum fits that same faded, easy palette without ever needing to announce itself loudly, doing nothing more than existing calmly wherever it happens to be hung in a room.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as a growing gallery wall, or laid flat as a no-water tablescape. Ivory Chrysanthemum holds up equally well as a solo statement piece hung on its own, or layered alongside other Coastal shapes in a broader gallery cluster across a wall. Lay several flat across a shelf or mantel for a quiet, sun-bleached tablescape that holds its arrangement permanently, with no watering ever required.

Complete the Look

Ivory Chrysanthemum works well alongside real greenery, giving a wall both permanence and something that visibly grows and changes over the seasons. The Large Tika Ceramic Pot 8 Inch Greenery echoes the piece's calm palette while introducing texture through an actual plant. Place them side by side on a shelf or console for a look that feels curated rather than matched. The contrast between fired ceramic and living leaves does most of the work on its own.

The Safe Color Was Never Safe. — Coastal Collection.

A chrysanthemum seemed like an obvious shape to make in ivory the first time someone at the studio suggested it back in the early 2000s, and two decades later it's still one of the calmer proposals that's ever come out of a design meeting here. Every piece is still shaped by hand in small batches, finished by people who've done this specific fold more times than any of us have bothered to count. The color itself never dramatically changes — that's sort of the assignment with ivory — but the studio's read on restraint has sharpened considerably since the early days. We used to think quiet meant plain. Now we think quiet just means it's done arguing with the room around it, which is a different thing entirely.

Frequently asked questions

How does a Ivory Chrysanthemum hang on the wall?

A Ivory Chrysanthemum hangs from a single hook using the keyhole slot on the back. No tools beyond a hammer and nail are needed. It sits flush against the wall once mounted. Most people find the exact spot within a minute or two. We've never had one that needed a level, honestly.

What does a chrysanthemum mean as a gift?

A chrysanthemum as a gift traditionally means loyalty and quiet optimism, values that tend to age well over time. Ivory Chrysanthemum leans into that meaning without ever spelling it out directly. It's a subtler message than a card, and it happens to last considerably longer. Most people appreciate that kind of restraint.

Is a ceramic chrysanthemum a good gift idea?

A ceramic chrysanthemum makes a genuinely good gift idea for anyone who already has enough vases collecting dust on a shelf somewhere. Ivory Chrysanthemum requires no water, no sunlight, and no seasonal replacement of any kind whatsoever. It just sits there looking finished, indefinitely, without asking for anything. That's rare in most floral gifts.

Does an ivory ceramic chrysanthemum work as beach wall decor?

An ivory ceramic chrysanthemum works well as beach wall decor, since the pale tone reads as sun-faded without actually needing any sun exposure. Ivory Chrysanthemum pairs naturally with driftwood, linen, and other quiet coastal textures. We've seen it photographed next to seashells more than once. It seems to invite that pairing.

What ships inside the box with a Ivory Chrysanthemum order?

Every Ivory Chrysanthemum order arrives in a branded Chive gift box, ready to present without any extra wrapping needed on your end. A small printed card explains the hanging hardware, which comes already built into the back of the piece. Nothing requires batteries, water, or soil of any kind. It ships completely ready to hang.

What is a meaningful gift for a daughter-in-law?

A meaningful gift for a daughter-in-law should feel personal without being presumptuous about her taste, which is a harder balance than it sounds to strike well. Ivory Chrysanthemum works because ivory rarely clashes with anyone's existing decor or furniture choices. It reads as considered, not generic. That's the safer bet.

How long does a ceramic mum last compared to a fresh one?

A ceramic mum lasts indefinitely once mounted, unlike a fresh one, which typically browns and drops petals within a week or two. Ivory Chrysanthemum keeps its exact shape and color for years without any visible change at all. There's no compost pile in its future. It simply stays exactly put.

Is a ceramic chrysanthemum a good housewarming gift?

A ceramic chrysanthemum makes a strong housewarming gift, mostly because it doesn't add to the general chaos of moving boxes and unpacked plants. Ivory Chrysanthemum goes straight on a wall and stays there permanently. New homeowners tend to appreciate anything that doesn't require immediate maintenance. This qualifies on every count.
