Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

A 51st anniversary gift works best when it feels chosen rather than convenient, and Ivory Monch Aster earns that distinction by doing almost nothing at all. The aster sits in ivory, quiet and unhurried, the kind of piece that takes months before anyone in the room actually registers it's there. That slow reveal is the point: nothing loud, nothing competing for attention, just a shape that settles into a wall and stays settled. It works well against scandinavian wall art, where restraint is the whole design language, and makes a considered gift for an architect who already owns enough objects that shout. Every piece is shaped by hand at Chive ceramics studio since 2004, so no two asters read exactly alike even in the same ivory glaze. Once it's mounted, there's no soil to replace and no light to manage, ever. Norfolk Botanical Garden stocks a rotating handful of Chive ceramics in its own gift shop, this aster among the current offerings, filed quietly beside the garden's living collection.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

Ivory Chrysanthemum ceramic wall flower styled on wall — Coastal Collection — Chive Studio Toronto

Unique coastal decor, original flower designs in 200+ art galleries and institutions worldwide

We've had the Ivory Monch Aster in the collection long enough that most of the staff has genuinely stopped noticing it, which I've come to believe is the highest compliment a quiet flower can receive. It doesn't announce itself. It doesn't try to be the thing you see first when you walk into a room. It just sits there in that particular ivory, doing whatever the ceramic equivalent of humming softly to itself might be, and waits for you to catch up.

People do catch up, eventually. It takes about six months, on average, for someone to actually register that it's there — not because it's hidden, but because it's so unassuming that your eye just glides past it for half a year before something clicks. And then, without fail, we get an email. What was that aster called again? They forgot. They'd been living with it long enough to love it and not long enough to remember its name, which strikes me as a very specific and very human kind of relationship to have with a piece of ceramic.

We consider that email a feature, not a bug. It means the flower did its job: it settled in, it stopped being furniture-you-just-bought and became furniture-that-was-always-there. Ivory doesn't rush that. It never has.

Designed to Share the Same Room

Ivory Amandine Ranunculus ceramic wall flower styled on wall — Coastal Collection — Chive Studio Toronto

Part of the Coastal Collection

Coastal doesn't chase a spotless look here. It leans into a version of color that's already spent a summer outdoors, sun-faded and entirely fine with it. Months can pass before anyone in a room actually registers this one is there, a slow reveal that's the entire point of the shape, while the Ivory Amandine Ranunculus takes the opposite approach, rewarding a closer look almost immediately.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as a growing gallery wall, or laid flat as a no-water tablescape. Ivory Monch Aster works equally well as a single anchor piece hung alone on a wall, or grouped with two or three other ivory shapes for a fuller, more layered arrangement. Try grouping several together on a console table for an effortless, sun-faded tablescape that never needs rearranging once it's set in place. Shop the full Coastal Collection.

Colourful ceramic planters with saucers arranged on concrete outdoor steps, each planted with a different houseplant.

Complete the Look

Ivory Monch Aster pairs naturally with a real plant nearby, since the two work in visual conversation without competing for attention on the same wall. The Large Tika Ceramic Pot in Orange brings warmth to the grouping, its bold glaze offsetting the aster's quiet ivory tone. Set a trailing plant inside and let the pairing anchor an entryway or reading nook. Together they read as considered rather than accidental, which is the whole idea behind pairing ceramic and living pieces in the first place.

Chive artisan hand-made ceramic flower petal without molds with keyholes for hanging

The Safe Color Was Never Safe. — Coastal Collection.

Chive ceramics studio has been shaping flowers by hand since 2004, starting long before "no water, no maintenance" became something people actually searched for online. Every Monch Aster begins as a slab of clay, cut and curved into shape before a single glaze decision gets made. What's changed over twenty years isn't the process — it's the confidence to make something this quiet on purpose, instead of reaching for a louder color every time. Ivory takes a certain kind of trust in the shape itself, since there's no bold glaze to hide behind if the petals aren't right. We test every batch before it ships, the same way we always have. The goal has never been to make the boldest flower on the wall. Some days, quiet wins.

Frequently asked questions

How does a Ivory Monch Aster hang on the wall?

A Ivory Monch Aster hangs from a single picture hook, no wire or bracket needed. There's a keyhole built into the back, so it goes up in about ten seconds flat. We tested a dozen hanging methods before landing on this one. Most people hang it slightly off-center anyway. We don't correct that. It's their wall.

What is a good 51st anniversary gift for a couple?

A good 51st anniversary gift for a couple usually means something that doesn't need replacing, unlike the flowers everyone else sends. Ivory Monch Aster fits that brief exactly. It also happens to match almost every wall color, based on the emails we get. Fifty-one years deserves something that isn't going anywhere.

Is a ceramic aster a good 51st anniversary gift?

A ceramic aster makes a genuinely good 51st anniversary gift, mostly because it skips the awkward math of "should we even celebrate the odd years." Ivory Monch Aster just shows up quietly and stays put, indefinitely, without asking for a single thing in return. No wilting, no reminders, ever. Fifty-one deserves permanence.

Does an ivory ceramic aster work as scandinavian wall art?

An ivory ceramic aster works well as scandinavian wall art, since that whole design language leans on restraint over statement pieces. Ivory Monch Aster doesn't compete with a room's other elements, which is the entire point of the style. We've had more than one customer describe their whole apartment to us this way, unprompted. It fits right in.

What ships inside the box with a Ivory Monch Aster order?

Every Ivory Monch Aster order ships in a branded Chive gift box, ready to hand over without any extra wrapping required on your end. Nothing inside needs assembly of any kind. A small care card comes tucked in as well, mostly explaining that there's genuinely nothing to care for. People seem surprised by that every single time.

What is a thoughtful gift for an architect?

A thoughtful gift for an architect usually means something with real attention to form, not just color choices. Ivory Monch Aster fits that instinct well, since the shape itself does all the work with no glaze tricks to hide behind. We've shipped more than a few of these to actual design studios. Apparently word travels fast in that field.

How long does a ceramic aster last compared to a fresh one?

A ceramic aster lasts indefinitely compared to a fresh one, which typically wilts within a week even under the best conditions. Ivory Monch Aster looks the same on year five as it did on day one. No vase, no water changes, no eventual funeral for it in the trash. That trade-off tends to win people over fast.

Is a ceramic aster a good anniversary gift?

A ceramic aster makes a strong anniversary gift precisely because it skips the built-in expiration date that comes with every fresh bouquet. Ivory Monch Aster keeps its shape and its color indefinitely once it's mounted on the wall. Anniversaries already come with enough things people forget about entirely. This isn't going to be one of them.
