Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

Ivory rose meaning tends toward reverence and quiet elegance, and this piece delivers exactly that without a hint of extra drama. Ivory Rose is, by most measures, the most classic shape in the entire Coastal line — the ceramic equivalent of understated formalwear, built to recede into a white wall rather than dominate it. It suits scandinavian wall art settings especially well, and works as a sympathy gift for loss, where restraint carries more weight than any grand gesture could. This rose has been shaped by hand at the studio for two decades running, and the finish still varies subtly from one firing to another. It stays exactly as it looks the day it arrives, with nothing to wilt and nothing to replace. Museum of Fine Arts keeps a small rotation of Chive ceramics on hand in its museum shop, this rose currently among them, resting near other quietly classic pieces in the same understated register.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

Ivory Chrysanthemum ceramic wall flower styled on wall — Coastal Collection — Chive Studio Toronto

Unique coastal decor, original flower designs in 200+ art galleries and institutions worldwide

The rose that is ivory, classic, and — by my own internal reckoning, which nobody asked for but I'm sharing anyway — the single most "considered" purchase in the entire Coastal line. It's the flower equivalent of someone showing up to a summer wedding in all beige linen: nothing flashy, everything deliberate, not a single element of the outfit left to chance.

It disappears beautifully into a white wall, which is, in fairness, the entire point of the design. And yet the customer always feels compelled to clarify that their wall is "more of a greige, really" — a level of specificity the order form did not request and the flower does not require in order to function. We appreciate it nonetheless. We just don't need it.

What I find genuinely touching, if I'm being honest, is that nobody clarifies their wall color for the loud pieces. Nobody emails us about the spider mum's wall. It's always the rose — the quiet one, the considered one — that inspires people to describe their homes in loving, unnecessary detail. I think it's because the rose asks for nothing, and people want to give it something anyway. Even if that something is just a paint chip description we'll never act on.

Designed to Share the Same Room

Part of the Coastal Collection

The Coastal collection picked up its ease from porches that never worried about salt air, since nothing here was ever precious — driftwood pale, sea glass blue, a shell-toned bloom left weathered. Every piece trades gloss for something sun-faded. Ivory Rose brings that same quiet restraint and calm to a wall, classic in shape and entirely unwilling to compete with whatever else is already happening in the room around it.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as a growing gallery wall, or laid flat as a no-water tablescape. Ivory Rose reads as a natural centerpiece whether it's hung alone above a console table, or arranged flat alongside other ivory pieces on a nearby mantel or shelf. A cluster of three or four together makes for a tablescape that never wilts and never needs refreshing, unlike anything cut fresh from a garden.

Complete the Look

Ivory Rose looks especially considered next to a small potted plant, the kind of pairing that suggests real thought went into a room rather than a single impulse purchase. The Minute Large Ceramic Pot in Green Blue picks up cooler undertones that flatter the rose's ivory finish nicely. Set the two side by side on a mantel or windowsill for a grouping that feels complete without being matched. It's a small addition that changes how the whole corner reads.

The Safe Color Was Never Safe. — Coastal Collection.

The rose has been in Chive's ceramic lineup in some form since nearly the beginning, though the ivory version came later, once the studio had enough confidence in restraint to trust a single classic shape without dressing it up. Each one is still shaped and finished by hand in small batches, the glaze applied in a process that hasn't changed much since we started, because there was never a reason to fix it. What has shifted is our sense of what a "classic" flower actually needs to do on a wall: not compete, not perform, just recede into the room the way the real thing never quite manages to. Twenty years in, that's still the entire design brief for this piece.

Frequently asked questions

How does a Ivory Rose hang on the wall?

A Ivory Rose hangs from a single hook, using the keyhole slot built into the back of the piece itself. There's no wire to attach or hardware to buy separately at all. Most people mount it slightly higher than they expect to at first. It reads best above eye level.

What does an ivory rose mean as a gift?

An ivory rose as a gift traditionally signals reverence and quiet devotion, which tends to suit occasions that call for restraint over spectacle. Ivory Rose carries that meaning without needing an accompanying card to explain it. The shape does the talking on its own. Words tend to get in the way.

Is a ceramic rose a good sympathy gift?

A ceramic rose makes a genuinely good sympathy gift, mostly because it doesn't force anyone to watch it wilt during an already difficult week of grieving. Ivory Rose stays exactly as it arrived, indefinitely, with nothing further required from anyone. Grief doesn't need another thing to manage. It simply stays, quietly present.

Does an ivory ceramic rose work as scandinavian wall art?

An ivory ceramic rose works especially well as scandinavian wall art, since that entire aesthetic depends on restraint rather than statement pieces. Ivory Rose doesn't compete with a room's other elements, which is the whole design premise behind the style. We've seen it photographed in genuinely minimalist spaces more than once. It fits without effort.

What ships inside the box with a Ivory Rose order?

Every Ivory Rose order ships in a branded Chive gift box, ready to hand over without any extra wrapping needed. A small card inside explains the mounting hardware, which is already built into the piece itself. Nothing requires water, soil, or ongoing care of any kind. It arrives fully finished and ready to hang.

What is a lasting sympathy gift for someone grieving?

A lasting sympathy gift for someone grieving should avoid anything that requires more effort during an already exhausting stretch of time. Ivory Rose asks for nothing beyond a single hook and a few minutes to hang it. It doesn't wilt alongside everything else that week. That much, at least, stays constant.

How long does a ceramic rose last compared to a fresh one?

A ceramic rose lasts indefinitely, unlike a fresh one, which typically wilts and drops petals within a week regardless of care. Ivory Rose looks the same years later as it did the day it arrived. There's no vase to refill, no eventual disposal to think about. It simply remains, exactly as intended.

Is a ceramic rose a good gift for a wedding?

A ceramic rose makes a strong wedding gift, mostly because it outlasts the actual bouquet by several decades without any extra effort involved on anyone's part after the wedding. Ivory Rose fits naturally into a couple's first shared home, regardless of their existing decor. It reads as considered, not generic. Few gifts last this long.
