Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

The stargazer lily was bred specifically to face upward rather than nodding forward, because someone decided a flower that looks at you directly is more interesting. They were right. The Navy Stargazer Lily is a ceramic wall flower, 4.75 inches across, one screw, no water. Navy is the color of having made a decision and not revisiting it. The stargazer lily was bred to face the room. Navy confirmed the decision. The Navy Stargazer Lily is the piece that looks at you first and has been looking since it arrived.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

The Story Behind This Piece

Stargazer lilies were bred to face upward rather than nodding forward the way most lilies do, and recreating that upward tilt in fired clay is a genuine structural problem, not just a design preference. A bloom this heavy, angled to look straight out at the room, wants to tip forward during firing unless the base is built to counter that weight specifically. We adjusted the internal support angle through several test pieces before the lily held its upward gaze reliably through a full kiln cycle without slumping. Navy was not the variety's traditional color, which usually leans pink, but once the structural problem was solved, a deeper, more confident color felt like the right match for a flower that had been bred, quite deliberately, to look at you rather than away.

Part of the Japan Collection

The Japan collection learned its patience from rooms built around one object instead of a crowded shelf — an off-center bloom, an asymmetrical bract, a glaze left looking unfinished. Every piece trades abundance for one flower a room needs. The Navy Stargazer Lily carries the upward angle the variety is known for, navy replacing the usual pink without losing any confidence. A confident lily continues the same upward angle.

Two Ways to Display

Every Chive ceramic flower works two ways: mounted vertically as a growing gallery wall, or laid flat as a no-water tablescape. The Navy Stargazer Lily's upward-facing bloom reads most confidently mounted vertically, looking straight out at the room the way the variety is bred to, and settles into a bolder, still-outward-facing piece laid flat on a shelf. Either way the navy glaze holds its nerve in either position. Shop the full Japan Collection.

Complete the Look

An Elephant Plant Pot nearby gives an actual living plant the drainage and root space that fired clay, unlike this lily, genuinely requires to keep growing well over time. Both pieces share a similarly confident, upright presence that doesn't ask permission to be noticed. Shop the Elephant Plant Pot.

About Chive Ceramics Studio

Chive has treated a flower's natural growth angle as a structural problem worth solving accurately since 2004, rather than a decorative detail to approximate loosely. An upward-facing bloom this size is more prone to slumping during firing than a downward or side-facing one, which the studio has learned mostly through pieces that didn't survive the kiln in their intended position on the first attempt. Getting the internal support angle right matters more than the glaze color, in the sense that a lily that tips forward during firing never gets far enough to need a color decision at all. Two decades of solving that kind of structural problem quietly underlies most of the collection's more dramatically posed pieces, this one included.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Navy Stargazer Lily hang on the wall?

The Navy Stargazer Lily hangs on a single screw using the keyhole mount on the back. Screw, wall anchor, and instructions are included. Installation takes about ninety seconds. The mount sits flush against the wall. No visible hardware. It can be repositioned without wall damage

What does a stargazer lily mean?

The stargazer lily carries meanings of ambition, aspiration, and the willingness to face difficulty with optimism -- the upward orientation that defines the flower is also its symbolic meaning. It was bred to face upward while most lilies nod forward, and that purposeful orientation is what gives it its name and its meaning. In the language of flowers it represents prosperity and success. Navy is the color that carries that meaning at depth

Is the Navy Stargazer Lily good bedroom wall art?

The Navy Stargazer Lily works well as bedroom wall art. The navy glaze is deep and calm, the stargazer form faces outward with confidence, and the combination reads as both grounding and present. For a bedroom that wants one wall piece that has a clear orientation and does not recede into the background, the Navy Stargazer Lily does not recede. It faces the room. That is rather the point

What room suits the Navy Stargazer Lily?

The Navy Stargazer Lily works well in living rooms, bedrooms, and home offices -- rooms where a navy botanical piece with strong presence reads as a deliberate choice. The navy glaze sits well against white, warm grey, and deep-toned walls. The San Diego Aquarium carries Chive ceramics -- an institution with a deep familiarity with the color navy in its most literal context

What style does the Navy Stargazer Lily suit?

The Navy Stargazer Lily suits Japandi, coastal, minimalist, and dark academia interiors well. Navy is a versatile anchor color, and the stargazer form is botanical and bold. It works in maximalist interiors where the depth of navy functions as a grounding element. the Japan Collection was developed from Japanese botanical principles, and navy is one of the collection's most committed color positions

Is the Navy Stargazer Lily a good coastal wall decor piece?

The Navy Stargazer Lily is a strong coastal wall decor piece. Navy is the color most directly associated with the sea, the stargazer faces outward with the confidence of something that knows what it is looking toward, and the lily form is botanical and specific rather than generically nautical. The San Diego Aquarium carries this piece, which is coastal context confirmed

Does the Navy Stargazer Lily ship gift-ready?

The Navy Stargazer Lily ships in a gift box included with purchase. No additional wrapping needed. Ships to over forty countries. The box is designed to be given directly. The lily will face the recipient when they open it. This is not an accident

Has the Navy Stargazer Lily been informed that it was bred to look at people directly?

It has been informed. It finds this the correct approach. The San Diego Aquarium, which carries this piece, is an institution where looking at things directly is the entire premise. There is a consistency
