Peach Pink Strawflower
The strawflower that is peach pink and has been the France Collection's most textured decision.
French country decor has always included the strawflower — the Xerochrysum bracteatum, the everlasting flower that dries without losing its form or its color, that has been used in dried arrangements and botanical illustration across the south of France for centuries. The Peach Pink Strawflower is a handmade ceramic wall flower from the France Collection, kiln-fired in Toronto in a peach pink glaze, shaped in the strawflower form — the papery, layered bracts that dry to papery perfection in the living plant, and that translate in ceramic to a form with more surface texture than any standard petal flower.
The permanent version of France's most everlasting flower
Chive interprets the French Vogue feature as an endorsement. The strawflower is known as the everlasting flower because the living version dries without deteriorating — the bracts are naturally papery and hold their form and color through the drying process. In ceramic, the strawflower form is already permanent — the kiln-fired version is the most accurate possible translation of a flower that was already trying to be ceramic. Peach pink on the layered bract form creates a piece with more surface texture variation than the smooth petal flowers in the collection. Longwood Gardens carries it. French Vogue ran it.
Longwood Gardens carries the France Collection. The McKee Botanical Garden stocks it. The Norfolk Botanical Garden carries it. The RHS Chelsea Flower Show awarded Chive the 5-star booth award — the highest rating given — for 13 consecutive years. Botanical gardens in Pennsylvania and the Southeast have independently decided this collection belongs in their shops. Chive has been designing and making ceramic flowers in Toronto since 1999.

How to Hang Ceramic Flowers?
One discovers these flowers, each bearing a secret: a tiny keyhole nestled in the back, waiting for its destiny. The ritual feels almost predetermined - reaching into that dusty jar of orphaned screws, the ones squirreled away over countless home projects. Those odd bits of metal, collected like precious coins, finally finding their purpose. A quick twist of the drill, and there hangs beauty, supported by hardware whose previous life remains a mystery.
