Burnt Orange Stargazer Lily

The smell has been solved. Permanently.

Regular price $34.65

The stargazer lily was bred to face upward, which the hybridizer considered ambition. The Burnt Orange Stargazer Lily is a ceramic wall flower that has taken this ambition and made it permanent. Burnt orange is the color of the sky at the specific moment when the day has stopped negotiating and made a final offer. In the stargazer form — swept-back petals, raised center, the whole flower open and facing the ceiling — this color becomes the kind of object that makes people stop in a hallway. One screw. No water. It faces upward. It always will.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

Why We Made the Stargazer Lily First

The stargazer lily is why ceramic flowers exist. The smell of a real stargazer lily is the specific kind of overwhelming that clears a room within fifteen minutes of arrival — it enters before the flower does and lingers after it has been removed. We took this flower, which we had complicated feelings about, and we froze it in burnt orange at the exact moment when it looked the way we wanted it to look but before it could do anything with its smell. Ceramic has no smell. We won.

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium carries Chive ceramics, alongside the Utah Museum of Fine Arts at the University of Utah — a museum with a permanent collection spanning 5,000 years of art history, where the burnt orange stargazer has been found appropriate company. The stargazer is staring at the ceiling. It has accepted its position.

Burnt Orange and the Stargazer on the Wall

Burnt orange is the warmest color in the France Collection — amber-toned, the color of late afternoon light when the day has already made its decisions. On the stargazer lily form, which carries swept-back petals and the energy of a flower that was designed to be looked at, burnt orange produces a piece that is both warm and architectural. It works in rooms that have already committed to a warm palette and in rooms that need one decisive note.

The ceramic wall flower hangs on one screw. The keyhole slot is on the back. The smell is not present. The stargazer is staring at the ceiling. One screw. Ninety seconds. The problem has been solved.

How to Hang Ceramic Flowers?

In 60 seconds or less

One discovers these flowers, each bearing a secret: a tiny keyhole nestled in the back, waiting for its destiny. The ritual feels almost predetermined - reaching into that dusty jar of orphaned screws, the ones squirreled away over countless home projects. Those odd bits of metal, collected like precious coins, finally finding their purpose. A quick twist of the drill, and there hangs beauty, supported by hardware whose previous life remains a mystery.

Frequently asked questions

What does a lily flower mean?

The lily carries meanings of purity, renewal, and the specific confidence of a flower that blooms in multiple colors across multiple traditions and has never once doubted its right to do so. The stargazer lily specifically is associated with ambition and encouragement — the aspiration to rise above one's circumstances, which in this case means the circumstances of having a smell that clears rooms. In burnt orange ceramic, the aspiration is to be on the wall indefinitely. The ambition has been achieved.

What is a good retirement gift?

A retirement gift for someone entering a phase of life where they will be spending considerably more time at home and would benefit from having solved the stargazer lily problem before it starts. The Burnt Orange Stargazer Lily is ceramic — it requires nothing, smells like nothing, and will be on the wall in the retirement years and the years after those. Ships in a custom Chive gift box. One screw. Free shipping on qualifying orders.

What is a good 25th anniversary gift?

The 25th anniversary is silver. A handmade ceramic wall flower in burnt orange is the 25th anniversary gift that has already solved the problem the real version of this flower creates. Ships in a custom Chive gift box. One screw. Twenty-five years in, you know where the screws are. Free shipping on qualifying orders.

What is good dining room wall decor?

Dining room walls benefit from something with enough warmth and presence to hold attention over a long meal. Burnt orange is the warmest note available — it works with wood tones, white walls, and candlelight in the way that warm colors work with warm light: by agreeing with it rather than fighting it. The stargazer lily form is bold enough to hold attention at distance. It does not smell. This is a significant advantage in a room where people are eating.

Has the stargazer lily accepted its position on the ceiling?

Yes. The Burnt Orange Stargazer Lily has been staring at the ceiling since we made it, which is where a stargazer lily belongs. The name is correct — it is a lily that gazes at stars, which requires looking up, which is exactly what it is doing on the wall. The real version of this flower arrives ahead of itself and is difficult to be in a room with for more than thirty minutes. The ceramic version has been on walls for years without incident. The problem has been solved. The stargazer is at peace with this arrangement, as far as we can tell from the way it looks at the ceiling.

What is good cottagecore decor?

Cottagecore decor rewards warm botanicals, handmade objects, and the general aesthetic of a space assembled by someone who has opinions about gardens and has brought things back from them. The Burnt Orange Stargazer Lily is handmade, warm, botanical, and — crucially for a cottagecore interior — does not smell. The real version of this flower would not have survived a cottagecore cottage. The ceramic version belongs there.

Does it come in a gift box?

It ships in a custom Chive gift box, which means you don't have to do anything except hand it over. The packaging is the kind that people keep after the flower is on the wall, which we take as a compliment. Ships with free shipping on qualifying orders.

How do you hang a ceramic wall flower?

One screw and 90 seconds. The ceramic wall flower has a keyhole slot on the back. Put a screw in the wall, hang the flower, done. No tools required after the screw goes in. No hardware kit. No instruction sheet. One screw. Ninety seconds. The screw is not included but a screw is something you have.
