Burnt Yellow Elegance Ranunculus

Not the right color for the room. Not leaving.

Regular price $27.15

The Burnt Yellow Elegance Ranunculus arrived at the event without an invitation and has now been on the guest list for years. Burnt yellow is the yellow that has survived something — it has the warmth of amber without the sweetness of gold. At 3.74 inches across, one screw, no water, it is the smallest extravagance available. The Elegance Ranunculus has more petals than it needs, uses all of them with complete seriousness, and has never once been asked to leave a room early.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

Burnt Yellow at the Elegance Ranunculus

The France Collection palette runs on blush pinks, robin's egg blues, and warm whites — the colors of a French interior painted when someone was feeling very precise about color. Burnt yellow entered that palette with the energy of someone who was not on the guest list and did not check before arriving. It is not quite the right color for the room. It has absolutely no intention of leaving. The room has accepted this.

The Chicago Botanic Garden carries Chive ceramics — a 385-acre institution in Glencoe with over 2.6 million plants, where objects are chosen by people who understand the relationship between botanical form and lasting presence. The Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art also stocks Chive, which means the Burnt Yellow Elegance Ranunculus has been evaluated in both botanical and contemporary art contexts and found appropriate for both.

One Hundred Petals, Burnt Yellow

The ranunculus has approximately one hundred petals. Each one is slightly different from the one before it. The overall effect is a flower that has put considerable effort into being itself and is not planning to discuss it. In burnt yellow, that effort reads as warmth and persistence — the specific quality of a color that arrived at a party it was not invited to and stayed until it became the most interesting thing there.

The ceramic wall flower hangs on one screw. The keyhole slot is on the back. Burnt yellow showed up. One screw. Ninety seconds. It is staying.

Frequently asked questions

What does a ranunculus symbolize?

The ranunculus symbolizes charm, attractiveness, and the Victorian message 'I am dazzled by your charms' — which it has earned through one hundred petals deployed with complete confidence. In burnt yellow, the charm is warm and persistent rather than delicate, which is a different register from the blush and peach ranunculus and a more committed one. The burnt yellow ranunculus showed up. It is dazzling you. You have already accepted this.

What is a good thank you gift?

A thank you gift for someone who appreciates that you made an actual decision. The Burnt Yellow Elegance Ranunculus is specific, handmade, and the kind of thing that goes on a wall and stays there as a permanent record of the occasion. Ships in a custom Chive gift box. Free shipping on qualifying orders. Burnt yellow is the color of someone who showed up. The gift communicates that you did too.

What is a good 30th birthday gift?

A 30th birthday gift for someone developing a wall — who has moved past things that come down and is thinking about what goes up permanently. The Burnt Yellow Elegance Ranunculus is the kind of gift that starts a collection, or completes one, or becomes the most interesting thing on a wall that already has interesting things. Ships gift-ready. One screw. Free shipping on qualifying orders.

What is good home office wall art?

Home office walls are the walls that appear in video calls, which means they are seen by more people than any other wall in the house. The Burnt Yellow Elegance Ranunculus is specific enough to prompt a question and warm enough to make the room look inhabited. It hangs on one screw, does not require a frame, and is the kind of object that people ask about, which is either a feature or a complication depending on the meeting.

What is good whimsical home decor?

Whimsical decor works when the whimsy is in the object rather than applied to it. The Burnt Yellow Elegance Ranunculus is whimsical because it is a burnt yellow ranunculus named Elegance that showed up to a French-palette collection uninvited and stayed. The whimsy is structural. It does not require a sign or a shelf or anything cute arranged around it. It is on the wall. The story is in the color and the name and the hundred petals that arrived anyway.

Did burnt yellow actually show up uninvited?

It did. The Elegance Ranunculus sounds like a party with a very specific guest list — black tie, good ice, everyone knows each other from somewhere you have never been. Burnt Yellow showed up anyway. It is not quite the right color for the France Collection palette and it has absolutely no intention of leaving. The blush pinks and the robin's egg blues have accepted this. The room has accepted this. Burnt Yellow has not been informed that there was ever a question. This is probably for the best.

Does it come in a gift box?

It ships in a custom Chive gift box, which means you don't have to do anything except hand it over. The packaging is the kind that people keep after the flower is on the wall, which we take as a compliment. Ships with free shipping on qualifying orders.

How long does it take to hang a ceramic flower on the wall?

Ninety seconds, give or take the time it takes to find a screw. The ceramic wall flower has a keyhole slot on the back. Mark the wall, put the screw in, hang the flower. One screw, no tools required after that. If you spend longer than five minutes, something has gone wrong and the problem is not the flower.
