Sage

Lavender Bouquet · Bergamot · Cedar

Regular price $34.85

A sage candle that actually smells like sage rather than a department store's interpretation of sage requires French lavender and lavandin grosso doing the structural work underneath. The Shido Sage layers those two herbaceous notes with hints of powder and musk, finishing on a citrus edge that prevents the scent from settling into monotone calm. The vessel holds eight ounces of coconut-soy wax behind clear glass walls. A pair of braided cotton wicks divides the surface into two melt zones, and both wicks draw the blend evenly toward the rim so no wax clings to the sides. The formula excludes paraffin, phthalates, and every animal-derived ingredient a vegan shopper would flag. It burns for more than sixty hours when you trim the wicks and respect the melt pool on the initial lighting. I keep one on the kitchen windowsill next to a pot of actual sage. Guests cannot always tell which scent belongs to the plant and which belongs to the candle, which is exactly the point.

Candle Care

Candle Care 101 (Because You’re Fancy Now)

  • Always trim the wick to 1/4" before lighting. Unless you love smoke and mushroom tops.
  • Let it burn edge to edge the first time—3 hours minimum. This isn’t a quick fling.
  • Make sure the wicks stay centered and upright (like your standards).
  • Keep burn sessions to 4 hours max. Your candle needs a break too.
  • When only 1/4" of wax remains, it’s time to say your goodbyes. Deep breaths.

Bonus: Recyclable & Reusable

  • Packaging? Fully recyclable.
  • That chic glass vessel? Keep it. Use it as a vase, pencil cup, plant pot, or rogue paperclip collector. You do you.

Clarity and Calm in Every Burn

French lavender and lavandin grosso are not the same plant and do not produce the same oil. Lavender is sweet, familiar, the note that shows up in every relaxation candle on every shelf in every shop. Lavandin grosso is its wilder relative — camphoraceous, sharper, with an herbal bite that reads more like a kitchen garden than a spa. The Sage candle uses both because real sage gardens contain that same tension between calm and sharpness. Musk arrives in the dry-down, adding weight so the scent does not evaporate into clean nothingness the way single-note lavender candles tend to vanish after an hour. The citrus tail at the finish lifts the whole profile just enough to keep it from reading as a sleep aid. The coconut-soy wax holds these volatile herbal compounds longer than paraffin would because the lower melt temperature slows the rate of fragrance release. What that means in practice is a steady, moderate throw that stays consistent from the first hour to the fiftieth rather than a dramatic opening that fades to almost nothing by evening three. The glass vessel is designed to reveal the wax level honestly — you always know how many sessions remain before the vessel is spent.

The Uncomfortable Truth About Our Candles

Yes, they're vegan. Yes, they're made from soy/coconut wax that burns cleaner than your conscience after deleting those text messages. Yes, they're hand-poured by people who probably have philosophy degrees and opinions about natural wine.

But here's what really matters: these candles will make you seem more interesting than you actually are. Light one during a dinner party and watch as your guests suddenly think you summer in places with unpronounceable names. Gift one and become the friend who "just gets it."

We're still the best bespoke seed company in North America. But now we're also the seed company that makes candles so over-the-top, so unnecessarily complex, so delightfully pretentious that even we're a little embarrassed by how much we love them.
