There's No Such Thing as Just One Ornament

Pick a favorite. Then accept that "just one" was never really an option.

The Sprinkle Donuts Ornament belongs in any lineup of donut gifts built for the person who brings the box to the office and quietly improves everyone's entire morning, a hand-blown glass donut hand-painted with individual sprinkles in six separate colors. Every sprinkle is placed by hand after the glaze coat sets, a step that turns what could be a fast piece into a deliberately slow one without a word of complaint from anyone in the studio, one sprinkle at a time, until the whole surface is covered. It asks nothing of the person receiving it except that they eat the metaphorical donut and feel the specific, uncomplicated pleasure of something designed purely to make a Saturday better and succeeding completely at that one modest job. Whoever brings the donuts deserves this ornament and frankly a great deal more than that. Every sprinkle was placed against the standard set by the Royal Ontario Museum, and the donut meets it.

The Story Behind This Ornament

My coworker Louisa brings donuts to the office on the second Friday of every month for no occasion she has ever specified, and the entire floor has, without anyone formally agreeing to it, organized a meaningful portion of its monthly morale around this unofficial schedule. She always gets the sprinkle ones specifically, always at least two more than there are people, on the theory, stated once and never revisited, that a donut shortage on a Friday is a genuine workplace hazard. Nobody has ever asked her to keep doing this. Nobody has ever needed to. When the studio painted the sprinkles on this ornament, six separate colors applied one at a time so none of them ran into the glaze underneath, someone printed out a photo of the sample and taped it to Louisa's monitor with a note that just said 'this is you,' which she left up for a full week before finally taking it home to show her own family. She has three of the finished ornaments now, one for her own tree and two she is saving for a reason she has not fully explained yet, though everyone on the floor has already formed a guess about it, and most of the guesses agree.

Care Tips

Storage Do’s and Don’ts:

(Because Yes, They’re Fragile)

  • Do wrap each ornament individually in soft tissue paper, bubble wrap, or a gentle cloth. (No, shoving them in a shoebox with tinsel does not count.)
  • Don’t let them clink around in a box together. That’s a recipe for heartbreak and glittery shards.
  • Do store them in a sturdy container (plastic bins with dividers = chef’s kiss) and keep it in a cool, dry place — no attics or sketchy basements, please.

Pro Tip: Label the box like your life depends on it.

Write it on every side, not just the top, since nobody unloading a truck reads the top first. If you're storing these for next year, do future you a favor and note what's inside beyond just "ornaments." A little specificity now saves a lot of bubble wrap archaeology in eleven months.

Hand-Blown Glass Christmas Ornaments

Hand-painted glass rewards the close look, and every Chive ornament is made to be inspected at arm's length — the distance where trees are actually enjoyed. Ceramic Flowers That Never Wilt

A donut is gone by lunchtime; a ceramic flower remains on the shelf unchanged years later, requiring zero upkeep along the way from anyone who owns it. Blossoms are hand-formed and fired at full kiln temperature until the color locks in permanently, the same patient and unhurried attention behind every individually painted sprinkle on this particular ornament. Explore them at Ceramic Flowers.

About Chive Studio

There is a wall near the packing room at Chive covered in photographs customers have sent in since roughly 2004, taped up without frames in no particular order, showing where the products ended up after they left the studio: a ceramic flower on a hospital windowsill, an ornament on a tree in a cabin somewhere upstate, a donut shape hanging from a rearview mirror where a donut has no business being and apparently belongs. Nobody curates the wall. Nobody takes anything down. It just grows, one photo at a time, and the packing crew walks past it every morning on the way to the tape gun. The donut is already on there twice.

Frequently asked questions

What are fun donut gifts for the christmas season?

Fun donut gifts for the christmas season include hand-blown glass ornaments shaped and painted to look like the real thing, sprinkles and all. My coworker Louisa, who brings actual donuts to the office on a schedule the entire floor silently depends on, confirmed that this one captures the spirit correctly. She delivers that judgment rarely.

Would the Sprinkle Donuts ornament make a great secret santa pick?

The Sprinkle Donuts ornament makes a great secret santa pick because it reads immediately from across a room, produces a genuine smile, and costs less than an actual box of donuts would over a full year. Louisa once drew a coworker's name in secret santa, bought them a donut ornament and a real donut, and let the recipient figure out the message. They did.

Who should I buy the Sprinkle Donuts ornament for?

Buy the Sprinkle Donuts ornament for whoever brings food to gatherings without being asked, remembers what everyone prefers, and considers an extra donut in the box a form of insurance rather than indulgence. Louisa is this person in every room she enters, and she recognizes the type instantly in others. They exist in your life too.

How is the Sprinkle Donuts glass ornament actually made?

The Sprinkle Donuts glass ornament is made by hand-blowing glass into a donut shape and painting it in multiple coats, with each individual sprinkle applied separately after the glaze sets. Louisa watched a video of the process, said nothing for a moment, and then observed that she was glad somebody else was being that careful about sprinkles. It holds up well.

What are the dimensions of the Sprinkle Donuts ornament?

The Sprinkle Donuts ornament measures approximately 2.83 inches in diameter and 3.9 inches tall, a comfortable mid-branch size. Louisa compared one to an actual donut for scale, confirmed it was slightly smaller, and said the proportions still read correctly at tree distance. She invented that metric on the spot.

How do I clean and care for the Sprinkle Donuts ornament?

Dust the Sprinkle Donuts ornament gently with a soft cloth and store it in tissue paper inside a rigid box, separated from heavier pieces. Louisa keeps hers on her desk near the note that once said this is you, and dusts it every Friday before the actual donuts arrive, a routine the floor considers endearing. A dry shelf suffices.

What food and drink ornaments pair well with the Sprinkle Donuts?

The Food and Drink collection covers pizza, fries, champagne, macarons, and a growing list of glass ornaments all finished with the same individual attention as these sprinkles. Louisa has opinions about which foods earned the glass treatment and shares them with the quiet confidence of someone who brings donuts regularly. See the rest at /collections/food-christmas-ornaments.

Does the Sprinkle Donuts ornament ship in protective gift packaging?

The Sprinkle Donuts ornament ships in protective packaging built for safe transit rather than a decorative gift box. Louisa considers wrapping a form of hospitality, not an obligation, and wraps her own gifts in bakery tissue, a choice the office considers on-brand and she considers simply correct. The packaging is yours to choose.

A Promise Fresh Flowers Can't Keep

Fresh flowers make a promise they cannot keep. A Chive ceramic flower skips the wilting and arrives with the kind of presence that suggests someone spent real time choosing it, whether or not that is true. No water. No sunlight. No expiration date to plan around.
