Measuring 5.5 inches across with 3 inches of depth, the Milk Teal Leafy Cup Coral rises in ceramic tiers of plates around a hollow center and glazed in a soft, chalky teal. Each plate is angled to catch light on its upper edge, so the layers stay distinct. How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

Softening the Teal

The leafy cup coral is the softer, more layered relative of the cup coral, built from thin, leaf-like plates that rise in tiers around a hollow center. We wanted the tiers to read clearly from a distance, so each plate is slightly separated from the one below it and angled to catch light on its upper edge. The milk teal glaze came out of the same thinking. A fully saturated teal on this many layered edges looked heavy in early tests, so we softened it into a milkier, chalkier tone that lets the layering show. The color still reads as clearly oceanic, just quieter, like teal seen through shallow water. It is one of the larger pieces in the collection and holds a wall on its own.

Quieter Colors for Busy Forms

Softened versions of stronger colors have been part of the Chive palette since 2004, mostly for forms where full saturation would overwhelm the shape. Milk teal is one of them, and the leafy cup coral is the piece that made the case for it. Layered forms need a glaze that lets light and shadow do the work, and chalkier tones do that better than deep, saturated ones. The plates on this piece were shaped by hand one at a time and set at slightly different angles, so the tiers read as grown rather than stacked. A quieter color then keeps a busy structure calm enough for a living room or bedroom wall.
