Build Your Floral Wall With These:

Designed to cluster naturally, like a wild garden. Choose a flower as your design anchor, then grow your custom floral wall with these companions:

Tube corals grow as clusters of hollow cylinders, each one open at the top and each one home to a polyp that comes out to feed when it thinks no one is looking. The Pewter Blue Tubular Coral measures 5.25 inches across and stands 3 inches off the wall, a glazed ceramic cluster built from a ring of upright tubes that stand well off the wall. The cool pewter blue glaze darkens inside every opening and lightens along every rim. It mounts on one screw. The polyps, sensibly, have stayed home.

How to hang & display

Wall hanging

Works on drywall, plaster, or wood panelling. Drive a small screw at a slight upward angle, leaving the head proud of the wall. Slide the keyhole slot on the back over the screw head, adjust to level. Sits flush — no visible hardware.

No stud? No problem. A drywall anchor rated for the weight works fine.

Displaying a collection

Lay everything out on the floor first. Start with your anchor piece, build outward. Keep 2–3 inches between each piece and aim for the centre of the whole arrangement to land around eye level. Use painter's tape on the wall to map positions before committing to any screws.

Table & shelf display: Equally beautiful propped on a shelf, mantle, or side table. Pair with books, candles, or a small pot.

Making the Tubes Read Hollow

Tube corals grow as clusters of hollow cylinders, each one open at the top, and this piece leans into that structure more than any other in the collection. We built it from a ring of upright tubes around a central opening, so it has real depth from the wall and a sense of being something that grew rather than something drawn. Getting the tubes to read as hollow was the main challenge. They needed visible openings and walls thin enough to look natural, but not so thin that they chipped. Pewter blue suited the form because the glaze darkens inside each opening and lightens along the rims, giving every tube a clear edge. The cool tone keeps a busy shape feeling calm, which is why this piece hangs well in quieter rooms.

The Smaller, Brighter Tube

With its ring of hollow tubes standing well off the wall, this is one of the deepest pieces in the collection. The Azure Tube Coral takes the same idea into a smaller, simpler cluster and a much sunnier blue.

Explore the Azure Tube Coral.

Upright or Sideways

On a wall, every opening fills with shadow and the cluster looks dramatic in side light. Set on a table, the tubes point upward and the piece becomes a small sculpture that invites people to look down into it. Shop the Coral Collection.

A Softer Blue Gift

A Bird Porcelain Modern Flower Vase in Baby Blue makes a light, cheerful gift beside it, a vase for fresh stems a few shades softer than the pewter. One piece holds cut flowers for a week; the other holds its shape permanently. Shop the Bird Porcelain Modern Flower Vase.

Designing for Depth

Pieces that sit off the wall rather than flat against it have been part of Chive's range since 2004, and depth changes almost every decision. A deeper piece casts longer shadows, shows its sides from an angle, and has to look finished from wherever a visitor happens to stand. On the tubular coral, each tube was shaped by hand and the cluster was checked from the side as often as from the front. The keyhole mount on the back keeps even a deeper piece sitting steady against the wall. A cool, quiet glaze then lets the structure carry the interest without the color competing with it.

Frequently asked questions

What is tube coral?

The name tube coral covers a handful of corals that grow as clusters of hollow cylinders, including sun corals and organ pipe coral. Each tube holds a polyp that extends to feed. The Pewter Blue Tubular Coral is modeled on that clustered, tubular structure

Is the Pewter Blue Tubular Coral a good gift for someone who loves sculpture?

Yes. It is one of the most three-dimensional pieces in the Coral collection, standing well off the wall, and it reads as a small sculpture as much as wall decor. It comes in a gift box

How far does it stand off the wall?

It is 3 inches deep, so it projects noticeably and casts long shadows in side light. Leave a little space around it so the depth can register

Does a deeper piece hang securely?

Yes. The weight sits close to the wall even though the tubes project, and the supplied anchor keeps the one screw firm

What lighting shows it best?

Light from one side, such as a window to the left or right or an angled lamp. Side light fills each tube with shadow and makes the cluster look its deepest

Will dust collect inside the tubes?

A little, as with any open form. A soft brush or a quick puff of air clears the openings in seconds

What rooms suit it?

Living rooms, studies and hallways with cool or neutral walls. It works especially well above a desk or console where people pass close by and notice the depth

Is anyone living in the tubes?

No polyps were harmed or housed in the making of this piece. The tubes are open for decorative purposes only
